Between a 1g 7-bolt motor and a 1g 6-bolt motor? What im asking is can i take my 1g 7bolt motor out of my '93 talon and put a 6-bolt in without doing anything to customize the engine to make it sit right? like do i have to reweld motor mounts? anything electrical? im not for sure on what the best Block/head combo is but ive heard of people doing 6 bolt blocks with 7 bolt heads. Another thing is, is that i have a 5spd FWD 93' trans, i know the axles are different and the differentials are different. but what trans can i use 93+? like a 2g trans? i plan on putting a 6-bolt motor in my car but im not trying to do more work then i have to. lmk thanks.

It will drop right in. Just use the block and the head from the new motor. You can take all the stuff off your old motor and bolt it right up to the 6 bolt longblock.

I'm actually interested in this also. I've searched some threads, (you should check out the search button up top, it's pretty sweet ;] ), and this is what I've found out.

When switching over from a 6 bolt to 7 bolt engine, both 1G engines, the only thing needed parts wise is the 7 bolt flywheel. If this can be applied in reverse, then for a 7 bolt to 6 bolt swap in a 1G you should only need the 6 bolt flywheel, aside from the obvious engine to match. :)

To answer your questions though, from the thread I read on the 6-bolt to 7-bolt 1g engine swap on an AWD 1G (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/276505-7-bolt-1g-1g-awd-trans.html), there were no issues to change motor mounts, but you do have to mod the electrical to make the 7-bolt 1G work in a 6-bolt 1G, so I'd assume you will need to change the wiring. For a FWD, I can't say if this would be a different, but I'd assume not seeing as the engine and flywheel are the main components, but I'm still learning this all as I go. This info may not be valid, and only relative if this info can be applied in reverse logic from the research I've done in finding 6-bolt to 7-bolt swap in a 1G, so wisemen/mods PLEASE slap me up a bit if I'm wrong, but I searched the forums and this is what I've found thus far.

As far as the block and head question goes, here's a quote from the following thread, " http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/311140-6-bolt-2g-head.html "

The 2G head has smaller intake ports and a more gentle angle where the port curves down towards the intake valve. Theoretically this should create more velocity of the incoming air thus giving you better midrange torque and make the engine a bit more responsive.

The 1G head has larger ports which should allow for more top end pull
