whats the difference between a shortblock and a longblock?

i think a place you might be getting confused is between long block and short block versus big block small block. LOL it's alot

a short block is the bottom part of the engine, the block with the pistons and rods in it.

a long block has the head attached along with various other parts that make it more of a complete engine.

this has nothing to do with the size of them. Big block and small block are terms used for V8 american cars that had to do with the size of the blocks.
 
not to re-open the crankwalk issue but isnt the oil pump ALWAYS running at whatever RPM the engine is operating at? and as far as i know, unless i missed something in my engines class, the oil galleys ALWAYS open and running at full capacity to all portions of the motor at the same time?

please if i am wrong correct me, but from what i know, how is it possible for the squirters to get "stuck" open???

Read the article I linked, it explains it in detail. I don't want to misquote Magnus, they are much more qualified to speculate on this than I am. I'm not going to argue my opinion anymore in this thread since it has already gotten way off topic.

If someone invites posting in a new thread on this topic, we can continue this discussion there. I've stated my opinion, given to me by a reputable DSM specialist. I respect everyone's right to disagree.
