Except for the flywheel bolt. Do they have the same teeth pattern number? Im doing a 1g swap and was wondering if I can use my 2g starter on a 1g flywheel. Thanks.

OK, I think my last post is wrong  I wish I could get some expertise in this area, for common knowledge. From what i gather

1990-1994 Non-Turbo 2.0
Stepless Flywheel
215mm Clutch Kit?
Step Built into pressure plate

1990-1994 Turbo Fwd 2.0
Step on pressure plate
225mm Clitch Kit
should be stepped accordingly at every clutch change

Do Non-Turbo flywheels need to be stepped and/or resurfaced at a clutch change?? Really wanna know this one, could be causing all my problems. Any additional info would be nice.

With a fresh clutch change, they should be resurfaced.

From my experience the clutch and flywheel on the turbo are completly different from the N/T. it is NOT possible to utilize one.

When we were putting the ACT in we tried to fit a FWD turbo FIdanza in as well and it wouldnt match up to the tranny. So if you want a lightened flywheel you need turbo clutch, flywheel, and tranny.

In terms of lightening the flywheel, one guy recently had the "inner ring" as he called it of the stock N/T flywheel removed when it was resurfaced. He said it lightened it a couple of pounds and made a significant difference in his acceleration.

Hope this helps.

With my fresh clutch 4k miles ago, I didnt have it resurfaced, could this cause a problem?

Thanks Daedalus, thats what Mavisky told me, pretty much. After reading horror stories and looking at pics of flywheel explosions, theres no why in hell I'd have the stock fly lightened. Just kinda odd, none of the light weight flywheel manufacturer's carry one for the NT model.

Why wouldnt the turbo clutch and flywheel fit, to thick? Or to big around?

I wasnt there when they tried... (they started around 1:00AM... i went to bed) So i couldnt tell you exactly what was wrong but I know it didnt fit. I'll try and ask them today about the specifics.

Oh yea... The real Beotch is that they DO carry a lightweight flywheel for the 1.8L!!!!

BOO HISSSSSS! LOL

Ok, Ive been thru the search and got lots of mixed info. Can anyone explain the difference in flywheels between the different years, 6-7 bolt, N/T, turbo, AWD? What came with what? Thanks!!

Well the only difference between 6 and 7 bolt flywheels is the number of bolt holes in them.

When I went 6-bolt, I replaced my 7 bolt FWD flywheel with the 6 bolt one and everything fit right up.

The difference between AWD and FWD flywheels is that the AWD flywheel has a smaller diameter than the FWD one. This is so the AWD flywheel clears the output shaft in the bellhousing. (FWD doesn't have one)

As far as the NT/turbo (4G63 only) differences. I don't have any first hand knowledge, but my guess is that the flywheel is going to be the same as the turbo flywheel with respect to dimensions. As for the weight difference, I don't know.

The 420a flywheel, totally different than any of them.

Hope that helps,
-Jacob

I just want to know if what the difference is between a flywheel for a 7 bolt FWD and a 7 bolt AWD because i bought a fidanza flywheel and had the mechanic istall it with a new clutch and now the clutch wont disengage. He says the flywheel was very different from the stock one.

You help is greatly appreciated.

According to RRE the the AWD fw is smaller in diameter and heavier then the fwd. However, this would not effect the clutch b/c the clutches are the same. I don't know whats up with your car. Did you also replace the clutch? If so did up try adjusting the clutch pedal or bleeding the hydrolic system?

EDIT: The mechanic is right the flywheels look way different. Where did you get the fw?

I bought the flywheel from Ultrarev. I did also replace the clutch, both old and new are ACT 2100 lbs.

Alright I think I've finally found the problem to why my car won't start. I have a FWD 91 Talon non turbo 5 speed. I believe the previous owner put a AWD Flywheel on it (he could never get the car to start either). However, I'm not 100% sure though, and before I buy a FWD flywheel, I want to make sure this is the right problem. So if anyone out there has a picture of an AWD Flywheel and/or a picture of the FWD Flywheel for the FWD 91 Talon N/T 5pd, could you please post them so I could compare to what is currently on my car now? Thanks a lot.

Im not sure about the N/T flywheel, but for turbo cars the FWD flywheel is a bit larger in diameter than the AWD. So if you have an AWD flywheel in a FWD car it wont grab the teeth on the flywheel and just spin the starter.

Yeah that's exactly what is happening. I just wanted a picture to compare the one I have installed right now to make sure. But after speaking to several people I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Thanks.

(But if anyone does have any pics, they'd still help.) :thumb:
