okay i have a completely rebuilt 4g63 that i just dropped into my 97 gst. ive heard about 10 completely different ways to break in a engine. Im not taking anyone elses advice other than dsm owners who have broke in engines. Also ive heard about additives when breaking in engines...good or bad idea? Not trying to be picky i just want this beast to run at top performance!

there is alot of good break in motor oils on the market. I would start with that most are high in zinc I believe. might look into royal purples break in oil, or other brands. Everyone breaks theres in differently. I personally would use break in oil change it after so many miles with non synthetic oil then change that after 500 miles and still baby it until 1000 miles if not more.

Use conventional oil for tr first couple oil changes and beat the eff out of it and a lot of engine breaking

not to hi jack this thread, but what happens when you put a new clutch in with your new engine? the clutch will always say take it easy the first 300 or 500 miles how do you compensate for that? when the theory of running the engine hard seems like a possibly good theory?

well i have 5w-30 fully synthetic in it right now but i haven't ran it yet. im thinking of buying a additive to add into it.

Use a cheap clutch just buy a disc and re use a decent pressure plate. Done it before and they hold fine. The engine break drop the rpm at a constant pace and that where you getting your break in

yea i was kinda iffy about that because it was referring to bikes and cars. but i guess a engine is a engine. so that is a legit method? its kinda funny because it totally contradicts what everyone else says LOL...my brother told me to do that method before he even knew there was a post about it.

The motoman method is prove and tested. I would never hesitate to recommend it.

This is, by far, the best method I have ever practiced in breaking in a fresh engine. I have used it on several to date and each that I have been able to keep up with is still strong and healthy. :thumb:

I have personally done two complete engine rebuilds on a 6 bolt and seven bolt, I did not listen to any one besides this walk through to break my engines in and to this day they are still running strong and accurate(maintenance and dedication required)

Most shops break in their engines on the dyno ;)

The hard break is the best for turbo engines. The extra boost and cylinder pressures and heat help push the rings against the wall helping them seal better.

I always do the idle with cheap oil drain and replace filter then beat the Piss out of it. And one more change and its on to dding.

I know people who break their engine in at the track.

But as always to each his own.
