This next weekend I'm planning on picking up my first dsm, right now I drive a 2000 eclipse gs. I'm planning on picking up a 1990 eagle talon tsi, awd 5spd next weekend. Only thing is it's gonna be my dd, and is 2 1/2 hours away and doesn't have exhuast on it! It was fixed up after going into a ditch so the exhuast got ripped off so now it just has the elbow of a dp. So I need exhaust on it ASAP!! I want to get something that I don't have to redo, future goals are like a 400hp low 12-high 11sec reliable daily driver, so I was thinking something 3inch, that can support those kinda numbers. Can't be too spendy though, i was thinking 600 or less, and i don't want that loudass drone that resonates threw your brain on the freeway as it's probably going to be making a few 3-5 hour trips in the next few months.

Suggestions?

Hate to say it but if you're going to get a big 3" exhaust, you're most likely going to get the annoying drone with it. It also depends on the muffler you have, smaller muffler=less noise.

Go to an exhaust shop and have them make you an exhaust system. If you don't have emissions in your staet, might as well do a turbo back exhaust :)

My buddy got his done, from the downpipe back 2.5in all the way back with the stock muffler. Sounds dope and stockish. All this for $125 or so.

Unless you got connections and can make your own exhaust then #### it bro.

I dunno man, i got no cats on my car right now with a magnaflow muffler and have no drone whatsoever, granted its a smaller muffler but still, i've heard cars with 3 inch exhaust that are only loud when you really get on em

Well I'm just talking from personally experience, I have a full 3" on mine with no cat and it's drony as hell.

just get a muffler and some resonators. my 3in has 2 resonators and a muffler with no cat and i can still hear my engine revving over my exhaust and it doesnt seem much louder than stock. but in boost you get that sweet sweet dump truck song.

I would definately recomend getting a shop with a mandrel pipe bender to do it, 3 inch is plenty for what you want to do in the future and more. My first dsm i got a shop to make the exhaust for me, it was $350 for 2 7/8inch pipe but i supplied a muffler, it lasted the 8 months i had the car. My second dsm (both turbo awd 1g's) i spent nearly a grand for the apexi n1 and am extremely disappointed. The flex section in the dp ripped after 4 months and one of the hangers that is welded on right before the muffler had broke off of the pipe and left a whole the size of a quarter, and it isnt even close to 3 inch pipe either, its like 2 3/4.

So i guess the consensus is pretty much to get a custom setup made......... only thing is i'm not sure about finding an exhuast shop around here that has a mandrel bender, they might all only have crush benders.....

I had a 2000 RS and let me tell you, you're going to want to keep the 3G as your DD. Your new DSM, esp a new 1G will give you troubles. It's old. Look for signs of tranny wear. Be weary of trouble going into 2nd gear. Thats the first sign of her letting go.

Could not be said any better. My second gear ####ed up more and more and now I can't even put it in 2nd. It grinds hella and I have tried like no joke, 20 times once and didn't get it in. I was at a dead stop LOL

My 3g broke down 2 years ago and never bothered to fix it LOL. Got me my first dsm almost a year ago and has broke down more than my ex would on her knees

If you want to sell your 3G, I'd love to buy it from you. 3Gs have always seemed to be a better built car to me. But yea, your transmission is on its way out. Mine deteriorated so fast at one point that I had to drive home using only 4th gear. That was fun. I havent driven the car since.

I dunno about that dude, especially since this one has a brand new T-belt and tensioner, brand new balance shaft and tensioner, brand new oil pump and water pump, brand new headgasket, and arp studs, and only 78k on it plus the tranny is shifting real good. I know lots of people like to knock dsms for reliability issues, but I've seen cases, like one of my buddies had one, bought it with like 165k miles on it, had 185k when he sold it and the only thing he put into it was a clutch, and then he sold it when his roommate was being stupid and blew the headgasket, just saw it driving the other day too...........

i agree, i think DSM's can be as reliable as anything, its just the fact that they've almost all had a hard life, and a long one too, 18 years now for mine. I bought mine with 180k kilometers and over a year all i had to replace was a 4 year old altenator and who knows how old tie rod end. It's all in how it was driven and proper maintenance.
