What tuning set up is the best?

Running a SAFC w/ 2g MAF

Running the GM/MAF trans in the UICP

Running the GM/MAF trans in the turbo intake pipe

I am soon going to be buying a FMIC and need this info so i know if to get the UICP modified for the GM MAF.

Thanks in advance

Depends on your goals/style/preferences.

There is no 'blanket' best for everyone.

My goal is to make the most horsepower possible.

I don't care too much for style or looks.

I prefer whatever gives me the most horsepower for my hard earned money. Even if it's a tad more, if it's worth it, i'm game.

This is from one of the other maft users named Richard Glorioso:

For all the guys arguing preturbo vs blowthrough, just thought I'd
add one tidbit to the discussion.

I have a 3.5" MAFT setup on my 1G, preturbo. I recently dynoed 531
whp on this setup and ran 10.78 @ 135. No spray. Hz count was up
past 4000, over 60 lb/min of airflow.

Shows you can make plenty of power without going blowthrough.

Its really your choice then.

For me, the maft + a used 3.5" sensor was cheaper than an afc, plus I like the load based tuning of the maft. Also, Mike Licht gives the best product support I have ever run across.

Wow, that is hella impressive. so i guess pre-turbo is the way to go huh. Where did u get that info from.. got a link? I'm interested in reading the rest of the information about it.

I'm getting a used 3" for 50.00. does that sound like a good deal?

Where'd u get your used 3.5" at. I will ask the guy i'm getting the 3" from too if he has a 3.5".

does it have the same size plug in as the 3"

His setup:

> Wow. very impressive #'s. Care to share any more info on your
setup? Or is
> it top secret :)

93 AWD with 2G ECU and DSMLink
Crower Rods, Venolia 7.5:1 Pistons, O-ringed block
BJ's Stage 4 head
BJ's Sheet Intake
850cc Injectors
3.5" MAFT, preturbo
Bosch Pump
48 psi base FP, stock feed lines
PTE61 (56 trim GT40 / .63 and 76 trim GT350 wheel / 4" inlet)
Turbonetics T3 manifold
Stock NT Throttlebody, 2.5" IC piping, Custom Spearco 205 IC
35 psi

That is basically it.

Either sensor will work. Mine is off of a WS6 TA. It was $60.

The 3" will actually work better for you if you have a 91? was it.

If you have the 95, the 3.5" will work better.

yeah 91 gsx, cool i will go ahead and get the 3" then.

That guy is layin down some serious power. I have stock internals and head though. I don't want that much power. I am shooting for at least 350-400 at the wheels or hare more. Whatever i get as long as it is higher than 300 at the wheels i will be satisfied. Just building this car to outrun the new STI subaru's that think they are hot shit.

The reason I said the 3" for the 91 is the sensor will fit the stock intake, I believe. You can go and read up in the yahoo archives to be sure, but I think the 3" fits fine.

Saves you some money on a new intake.
