Hi I have a 97 tsi fwd and I am trying to get 300hp. I have read read read read and read some more and I feel that i know a lot by now.

Anyways I was wondering what to do for tuning.

I know that everyone swears by dsmlink and thats cool but its extra expensive.

I probably wont be going to the emanage\ecu+\megasquirt side.

right now im looking at the safcII or safc neo

I will be purchasing a wideband sensor.

My injectors will probably be 650s and ill be using the evo 16g

how does this sound? Or should i look for different tuning

yea man you are set with the afc

but if you want to go bigger down the road spend the extra paycheck on dsmlink

i ran 680cc on the afc just fine granted it was on a 190lp

If you're asking, then you obviously haven't read enough. 650 is pushing the limit of the SAFC. I don't know if you will be able to tune with those.

I read that 650s were the limit of the safc after that the timing will be messed up

I guess i shouldve mentioned that ill be getting a walbro 190

Lets put it this way, if you are 100% postive that you will never EVER want more than 300hp stay with an SafcII. If you have any doubt save your self the 300ish dollars or whatever and spend the money for the dsmlink. While the dsmlink is more expensive you get a better tune, better horsepower and knowing that you will never need to buy another tuning device ever again.

of course the SAFCII is a perfectly fine tuning device, for 300 whp.

Save you money for a few extra months and get dsmlink. It'll be worth it.

+1, dsmlink is really not that expensive consecrating the capabilties it has over the an afc. in my own opinion afc's are thing of the past and are way overpriced (for what they do)

You may want to check out the maft pro also. Its capable of speed density now. A friend had the older version and it can control timing, airflow(fuel), you can hook a wideband to it and it has learning capabilities. Its been a while since I messed with it so if I am wrong please call bs. But for 300hp you should just follow the already proven recipes everyone else has done. AFC, 550's, 16g, 190lph fuel pump. Easy 300hp.

+2359235 Trust me I have had both and I would never go back. I even run DSMlink in my daily so I can monitor knock. I personally think an SAFC is too expensive for what it does..

You could run an Eprom with just a chip for your injector compensations, then fine tune it with an AFC. AFC's used ussualy go for about $150, $100 for a good custom chip and you should be set. You will still also want to get a logger for monitoring timming/knock/injector duty cycles, and airflow. That probably runs another $80 or so. You should be able to find a good tune with that setup. Cheaper than Link, yes. As solid of a management, not as fancy, but it works!

Personly, I would fork out the extra money and just run DSMLink. Infinatly adjustable for all the setup you are bound to run WITH logging!

yeah I am basically following those recipies. but i figure i would go 650s, evo 16g, and 190lph pump.

So im kinda on a budget.

Right now im working on my car computer. Once that is done ill be able to purchase everything else. I may just have to go with dsm link. But that is still a maybe. either way whatever logger I use will be ran through the car pc.

Maybe if i wait ill run into a nice deal. we will just have to see. Thanks for your help everyone. Oh and ill post what I have in my car so far soon. just been busy

If you want to see my car and some things about it you can go to my local dsm forums.
