What to do with my 2g and $3000

Hi I just bought my first DSM in March 2012. Ever since I bought it I love it I want to keep my 97 eclipse gst forever. So here's the problem about a month ago some one hit my car in the rear driverside quarter panel the insurence totaled it so I decided to keep it ### it was only body damage nothing else. Now a few days ago my turbo started making a scraping sound and I think a seal is bad because my turbo seems to be burning oil. So the insurence company is giving me 3000 minus the 500 deductible and 500 to keep the car so I have $3000 and I've been reading for 2 weeks now on how to mod my car but so many people say so many different things I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to spend the money on my car making it better. I'm new to DSM and have messed with alot of VWs so help would be appreciated thanks
