Ok so i just bought this Talon about 3 months ago and im trying to figure out what to do to it next. It has a stock 7 bolt with a 60 trim turbo (unsure of brand) has 272 cams and full turbo back exhaust. It seems that the previous owner set it up for high end power so id like to continue on with that. Any advice is very appreciated :):thumb:

When's the last time all the maintenance was done? Timing belt, pulleys, plugs, wires, all that jazz. I would do that if it's been awhile. After that, depends what your goals are with the car. Is the mod list in your profile accurate? What are you using to tune the car?

look at builds on other guys blogs and what not. My build thread is in the process of 500whp to about 750whp. has lists of parts plans ideas, all kinds of things. my advice to you is go through the normal checks of your car. If you been around DSMs you will know that most guys dont sell there talon unless its broke about to break, or they need money. Nine times out of ten with a DSM, its not cause they need money. have you already checked through it at all or has it been sitting sense you bought it or what?

I would see it as two options, either a bigger turbo to continue the top end route. Or you can do some bottom end work on the block and see if you can fine tune your setup, this way you can see how much power you can squeez out of your current setup but the reliable way.

fill out your profile first. cams and turbo is not very helpful, we need to know what you are tuning with or even if you are tuning.

Stock injectors?
Tuning Device?
Fuel pump?

you might need to look into these, to take full advantage of the 60 trim.

If I were you, I would take that turbo off. Take some picture and post it on DSMtuenrs. Find out what exact turbo you are running and if it is worth investing more money. You can easliy pick up a used 16g and use it with the 272. You can make some crazy power too with that set up. 300 bucks for a 16g, and the reliability of MHI.

Either way, fuel and tuning is a must if you are going bigger

A 60 trim is big for a beginner. Not saying you are a beginner but your asking were to go from here, i beleive you need to find out everything about your car, pull the oil pan, make absolutally sure there is no shredds of metal. and dont say there is none just cause you drained the oil, make sure. check the status of your entire timing belt, pullys, compression, water pump status, balance shafts on time, all the essentialls of knowing your car is ready before you even pull what you can out of the sixty trim.

Its hard to tell if you dont know whats done to it or what parts he used, hopefully not all ebay parts. Not saying he did but you never know, start out by enjoying what you already have, you never know when something migjt blow god forbid.

Do maintence, if you don't know the last time the timing belt was replaced, well now is the time to do it. Always do maintence first no matter how modded a car is!! Also what are you using to tune? Are you tuning? Size of injectors? Looks like your runnning a 2g mas, may want to recirculate that 1g bov. I also see a headlight/bumper issue may want to fix that. Also I see the wastegate tied into the bov line!! Fix that as well!!

Do maintenance before anything. Then get a timing belt cover on that thing. Then I would get a Talon bumper and paint it to match. Then fix the hazing in the CF hood

I would do the maintenance first like everyone has been saying. Do a comp, and leak down just to be sure of the health of the car. Letting us know more of the mods you have and what is supporting that 60trim. Also i would start fixing the little loose ends that is going on with it. Just by looking the outside of the car and the look of the bumper and the intercooler it looks like the old onwer got a little lazy with the car.

Well ive checked all the maintenance and its all good. Ive been driving it since i got it. Very fun car. What should i tune it with? Im realy only wantong like 350Hp. Im not quite sure if my injectors are stock because they arnt blue tops there a purplish.

+1 ditch that turbo for something smaller. It will be a much more enjoyable experience for you.

1) How did you verify the maintenance? Did you see receipts? Take it to a shop? How do you know how old the timing components are? Trust me, the last thing you want it to snap a timing belt or have it skip a tooth. Then you're screwed

2) See the quote above. A 16g would be more than adequate for your goals.

+1 for preventative maintenance and tune, then go from there. You should see it for yourself, shouldnt really trust them, but maybe thats just

I had it checked out by my uncle who is a mechanic. Ive also been changing the oil every 2k miles and it has been looking great.

A 16g would get you your goals easy. The 60trim will very easily put you there or over your goals and be laggy. The 16g is smaller will spool a lot faster and have a better drivability. I would look into a DSM link v3 it would be the best bang for the buck.

Dont depend on anyone to check your own car for maintenance, not saying your uncle doesnt know what he is doing. It is extremely beneficial to know your own car, learn how everything works and ask question here if you dont understand something or just pm me, ill be glad to take all your questions :p

I would do your timing belt first and start doing small things like boost leak test, compression test, full tune up and get a logger. Its best not to assume the guy before you did all the maintenance.

I'd start with getting the best list of mods you can make sure the fuel system is up to par, and it has a good tune then dyno the car see where your power is and how much there is. .60 trim is a pretty good size turbo.

sorry steven, not being rude, but a proper build needs proper maintenance and the op has shown no effort of that yet, so under the circumstance he shouldn go and put all the money he can into performance then dyno it. cause if he followed your advice chances are his sh*t would fall apart
