What parts from my 3000gt should I keep for a DSM

For anyone who hasn't seen my post in the intro topic I'm from the Uk relocating to Canada (Nova Scotia). I have a 3000gt (twin Turbo) that I'm sadly selling before I move, put before I do there are a few parts I was thinking of returning to standard and removing the modded item's and shipping them over.
Question is are any of the parts any use, or are there better alternatives for a DSM

I'm looking to get a GSX/Talon AWD as I have loved having AWD in the 3000 (I have no real idea how easy its going to be to locate one in the Halifax area i would appeaciate any input)

the parts

1. Injectors... i have 650's fitted to the 3000 i understand this would be a resonable upgrade for a dsm and from what posts I've read they should be compatable(the 2 posts i found did not really confirm this only saying the standard 3000 injects are small 360ROFL )

2. Fuel Pressure regulator... i have an FSE fuel pressure regulator I believe is the same on turbo DSM this is something that i haven't been able to confirm on the site.

3 Fuel Comp...I've been running an E-manage on the 3000 since 2005 I have got to understand it very well (the map for the 650's took forever) but the many extra options available to the DSM seem to pale in comparison so this is something I'm tempted to leave in.

4.Profec E-01 .... boost controllers always seem to be more personal taste than car specific but I would be interested to hear any opinions on the use of it on the dsm. The screen is a little on the big side and i did have a few probs trying to fit it in my cockpit.

5. Pocket logger.... Always considered a good bit of kit over here put from what i've seen on the forums the sample rate has been stated as quite poor. Again something I'm tempted to throw in with my sale and buy a better option when I move over.

Thats about all i think would be compatable from the car if there are any more parts that anyone with experience in this knows about feel free to point it out. Also if anyone has experiance with driving both cars i would like to hear how much better handling wise the AWD dsm is than the 3000gt. I will miss the 500bhp launches but looking forward to going round some bends :D

I would say get the front brakes( calipers, hardware and rotors)they are a nice upgrade to a dsm but you need the car to be in working order so that you can sell it, also the stock fuel pump on a 3000gt vr4 is an upgrade on a dsm as well.

:D I would never have guessed the standard 3000 pump was an upgrade for a dsm. I have a walbro fitted through sadly due to my old pump giving up the ghost. I will bare this in mind as i know plenty of other UK owners who have upgraded and would be willing to throw a pump my way, sadly don't know what kind of life espectency it would have.

I do have a spare set of drilled discs(rotors) though all the rest of the brake system i need. Because my car is a uk 3000gt it has 305mm discs bigger than the japaneese import that is more comon over here. I believe that the US VR4 has these smaller dics so think these will not be much use either.

I'd take everything that you listed above. Also i think you'll like driving the 3000gt's skinny brother. Awd is the best don't settle for a gs-t. The only downside I see is that the 3000 gt is absolutely beautiful. Good luck with the move and picking up a nice dsm.

I agree the 3000 is downright sexy. And dont think you cant have fun with 500hp launches in a DSM. It just takes a bit more to squeeze it out of the 2.0 ;)

I've had both cars. The 3kgt is torquey and heavy, while the dsm shines up top and weighs 1500lbs less. Everything in your list of parts will swap over to a dsm. :thumb: I love my Talon, but I'm still on the lookout for another TT 3k

Come come now, we both know that is not true.

Pretty damn close. My AWD weighed in at 2880lb empty and ive seen a 3000gt weigh in at a drag strip around 4000lb. That was with a small girl driving. The 3000gt seem to have some early engine failures. I think its due to the oil pump failing or something. Cant remember. Also they are a pita to work on.

:barf: :D

Also you might think about buying a 3000 gto in Canada as well. You can buy them for reasonable price. For example, a friend bought one with less than 100 XXX kilometers on it for 7K CAD.
Not bad.

All those listed parts will fit on a dsm. I found a fuel pump to be a good cheap mod. Works great.

For a grand touring car with two extra cylinders, an extra turbo and accessories, two extra cams, AWS, active aero, active suspension, larger fuel tank, and all that good stuff, I think a curb weight of about 3700lbs is not that bad, especially when it wasn't meant to be a lightweight.
Every car has it's own problems, we have crank walk, they spin bearings, big deal. Neither is likely to happen, but in some freak cases they do.
I don't mind working on them, my family has owned four of them now, 2 bases and two VR4s - it's just like any other car. You take bolts out, remember where they go, take parts out, remember where they go, put everything back, remembering where everything goes.
If I was the OP, I wouldn't even look into DSMs, I'd personally try to find another twin turbo 3/S.

Never thought I'd see so many people recomend me going for another 3000, I have been keeping my eye's open for one while I was last over and the only one I found was very over priced and an auto non-turbo to boot if I was looking for another one I think it would need to be a spyder and finding a manual TT spyder for sale is proving difficult.
I've never had any real probs working on my 3000 just plenty of scraps and bruises the v6 is really shoe horned in. Just that I'm thinking it would be a good time to try something new and the idea of a Spyder to GSX conversion does interest me and I think I would make a great project for me (I'm an aircraft engineer and love taking tings apart:D ).

My final choice will depend on whats available don't know if there are any canadians here from the East coast who can tell me how hard its going to be to souce a good car. But coming from a small Island I never had to worry about where in the UK the car was Located (I picked my car up from the other side of the Uk which is only 700 mile away;) )

PS. Anyone tell me how to get an avatar I have uploaded a profile pic put it does not seem to appear as an avatar
Nevermind I now see only proven members can post avatars I'll have to load some pics of my 300 in my galllery.

When my dad owned Speed Demons in Colorado one of his friends came buy with a 96 3kgt vr4 spyder in red with black leather with less than 80k on the clock. It was downright gorgeous! I would assume the spyders would be heavier because most convertibles are ALWAYS heavier. The guy bought the car during his mid life crisis for 25k. This was back in 02 but they said that was a steal. Hell my jaw DROPPED. Of coarse, this was right when I was transitioning over from V8's to foreign named cars. I thought that was expensive but it was a very nice ride I must say.

I would personally go with a DSM. A 600hp 3kgt would be great but honestly, how many of those do you see? Unless you want to be the next shep of the 3kgt world be my guest I'd LOVE to check in on a DSMer showing those snot nosed VR4 pricks how to make power....
I've talked to a few and they think of us as the retards of the family. Like we dont matter...its sad the way i've been treated by those guys. IF ANYONE should act like that it would be the rotary guys. They're piston driven....so are we........anyways before I get all pissed off....
The Vr4 in MY eyes is meant for touring. It has enough hp to keep you excited but I just dont think a, damn near, 4000 rock should be thrown down or around any sort of track. Just my .02 cents.

If you wanna do the gs-t conversion to GSX, just try and fine a spyder vr-4... Hahaha, goodluck. The conversion would be sweet though.

There are actually quite a few in near the 600hp range. Even so, you can't say how many of those we see everyday. How many 600hp DSMs do you see everyday?

And I resent the statement of 3/S owners being snot nosed pricks.

Agreed on the touring part, however the strides the platform made in the past year are tremendous. The reason they haven't gone farther is because there hasn't been an aftermarket for them. The aftermarket is being opened up by the pioneers who continue pushing the platform forward. If they can get their '4000 rock' down the track in 9 or sub 9 second times, I think that is a respectable mark.

I agree that some are a bit snotty (and I'm one of them) I think its more of an age thing. I remember just before i bought my first 3000 i had just turn 21 and most of the owners i spoke to would not give me the time of day. But I think its just the case that you always get some bad apples in any comunity and the 3000gt/VR4 world is no different.
Anyway back on topic, Thanks for all confirming that everything will fit across and the extra info, My plan is to buy 2 dsm's year range '95-'99 one AWD that will be a test bed and ultimatly a donor car for the AWD system (I read the post on the conversion very interesting) and a spyder that will be my main mode of transport.
I'm over in May to sort out my house so hopefully will pick up one of the cars then, so its off to autotrader for now thanks for the help.

That's a horrible suggestion. I've only seen vr-4 spyders for around 40k and they are very very rare. While the gs-t spyder to gsx conversion really isn't hard and some people have made a profit from doing just by buying a parts car gsx and using what they need then selling the rest. I'd make a gsx spyder if I were you.

I have a 95 stealth sohc im parting. What all parts are interchangable between the two?I am parting it out and i know about the big brakes and mas.
Is any of the sensors the same?Wiper motors, ect.
