Like the title says I am planning on putting my big 16g soon and I already got an aftermarket o2 housing butttt my dilema is that the exhaust side of the turbo is much larger then the o2 and there is no room for porting. Can anyone that is running a big 16 tell me what they are using or provide a link maybe.

Thanks guys!!!

Ok ill check out some of the punishment racing stuff. What exactly are the advantages to running an external wg? ? That will also help a boost creep issue wont it??

External if you have a big turbo, look at your goals and budget there not cheap and you wont need it on your 16g.

Your wrong. Plenty of people run them on 16gs.
Run a external and never ever worry about boost creep. One of the best things i did to my 16g setup. I ported, got the bigger flapper...everything, but i still had slight creep with my 3" exhaust. Bought the punishment setup and a brand new tial of craigs list, held solid all the way thru the rpms. Total invest ment...400.

It's a f-ing 16g. You don't need an external waste gate. If you port the hit site correctly and have everything set up properly you don't need one. If you unknowingly port the hot side to creep then your going to have problems. Unless your running something like an 20g/ FP green or bigger you don't NEED an external wastegate. On a 30R like mine you shouldn't think twice about an external but a 16g is just fine with an internal waste gate in any configuration that I have seen (up to and including the FP HTA 68) Rather than spend the money on the fabricated o2 housing and wastegate you can spend the money on something that will actually net you power. Because if it doesn't make power its not worth the time or money.

Good story..Did i SAY HE NEEDED TO BUY IT??????????? You have no argument here bud. Id rather spend the $ and not worry about stuff again. The point i made was id rather have the eg setup for 2 reasons...
1. I DONT EVER WORRY ABOUT CREEP...PORTING...OR HOTSIDE MODDING
2. All set if you go bigger

Your "if it doesnt make power" is the dumbest bullshit i have read. Does your after market bov make power? How about your fmic? Or that cop setup ? Anything that helps stability when making power is a plus.

I guess puinishment just sells them for no reason right?

I got a punishment racing SS u2 dump. It was cool for a little but now I kind of want to get rid of it. Now that summer is coming and I'm going to have the windows down it's going to be super obnoxious.

I hear ya. I cant stand how the open dump sounds. The housing i had was recirculated.

what else is involved when running an external wastegate? Is there something else that needs to be changed?

I hate boost creep!

I use a dnp manifold it is configured for a external waste-gate an the mitsu flanged turbos. Like a 16g. You would also have to buy a external waste-gate like turbonetics or tial. I have personally ran both an have no complaints. They usually come with a spring for a certain psi but a boost controller can easily be ran to turn up the boost higher then the spring allows. Hope this information helped!

Unless you're looking to run the external off the o2 housing then you need to remove the internal along with the flapper or just keep it open somehow.

Right. Should have specified, thanks.

It all depends on where you want to run the wastegate. There isn't much to it either way. I've never ran it off the o2 housing before, I've always had a manifold with the gate on it.

Manifold mounted will need the internal gate welded or wired shut. Mounting off of an o2 housing will require the removal/wired open ALONG with hogging out the inlet hole. You can still creep with an o2 mounted gate if you don't remove the restriction that is the wastegate inlet design on the turbine housing.

With that said, the internal gate will hold the power and not creep if the inlet is ported out to remove the "hump" and have direct flow to the flapper. It's also cheaper if you have a die grinder.
