Hey guys, I've got a question about the 6 bolt I just rebuilt out of my 90 GSX. I'm kind of wondering what kind of numbers I can get out of my engine and the internals, also what my next mods should be to support this new engine and keep it running as good as possible.

I went ahead a scanned my invoice for the labor from the engine shop I had do the work. Heres what they did...

All the parts I had them put in were all brand new, I mean everything (except rods and crank) I had them go with the 2G pistons for the higher comp ratio, and they reconned my 1G big rods, had the balance shafts pulled and they installed Comp cams 101200's with some springs to match.

As far as support for the engine I don't have much other than the stock parts. I have a TruboXS MBC, header and full exhaust, a big 16G ported and well thats pretty much it.

My biggest questions are what could this engine and the internals support? Am I hurting anything right now by running the stock tune? (I'm really easy on it and I'm running only 6 to 8 PSI) And what kind of boost can I safely run as it sits now? 14?

Thanks for any help guys! :thumb:

14-15 lbs is typically safe on the stock fuel system. Maybe 16 if you feel like pushing it.

For anything more than that you will need to upgrade your fuel system.

I think I read on here somewhere that the stock SMIC is good for up to like 18 lbs of boost but don't quote me on that.

If you do a search there is a huge thread on here about (approximate) safe boost levels.

As for the internals... well, you will probably never outgrow the big 1g rods. They're pretty stout. Just worry about supplying the fuel and making sure you have a good tune.
