I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

I saw this ad on my craigslist today

1992 eagle talon front wheel drive turbo - $2200

I have a 92 Talon TSI for sale or trade. It has 15" enkei wheels, 16g, tubular manifold, 2g o2 housing, SS oil feed line, knock off greddy bov, auto meter boost gauge with center vent bezel. Comes with front mount intercooler and universal piping kit as well as evo 560cc injectors and an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. The timing belt was recently replaced with a gates racing belt and oem mitsubishi tensioner along with new pulleys and water pump. Runs great.

I offered him $2100 he said he'd take it, is it worth it? 122k miles clean title

Not really. I would never pay over $5-600 for a FWD with a bad motor. EVER. If that was a MINT AWD car with a bad motor I could see 1k-1200 ish.

Probably not. Patience. I looked for 8 months for my first 1g and I'm still looking (have been for 2 yrs) for a clean 2gb Talon awd

Good things will come your way. You'll know right away when it's the right car. It will feel right, smell right, even TASTE RIGHT!!! Lol In all seriousness just wait untill you find the right car my friend.

The thing is, this is going to be my first car, i dont really have a lot of money to spend, 1-2k is the best i can do you know. I am also trying to be me a mechanic, and follow my dad's footsteps. My dad also told me not to look for cars with outside/body damage, and look for engine damage better then outside.

If you feel that you can take on a project, then that very last one you posted looked fairly clean. usually you can pick up a good running short block for a pretty good price. See if you can talk them down to 1k. I like the ambition you have though. See if you can find an AWD shell. I know theres a few in the classifieds for sale in your geographical area. Ultimately, beyond what I say or anyone else on here, if you feel shady about the deal or it just feels. . . off. Don't do it.

Thanks for the help man. The thing is, i want a kinda project car, that would actually run, and i could fix/clean it in a couple of months, and then start on with the mods and monthly maintanance. I am going to talk with my dad and see what he has to say about this.

If you need a car that you can drive every day (especially with only a couple of grand to spend), a project DSM isn't your best bet. Owning a DSM takes money, patience, and time. Since you also lack experience, you are going to be in for a frustrating ride if you are looking for a project DSM without a reliable daily driver to fall back on.

When it comes to performance cars, there's an old saying that is absolutely 100% true: "Fast, reliable, and cheap: pick any two".

^^^ THIS! I love these cars but it is a bad idea to dive into one for your first car unless it already runs well.

I'm always down to give a few tips. There are a lot of people on here that are more expierienced with DSM's and automotive in general ( Calan up there is a perfect example ;) )but, I love to help when I can. I honestly consider myself a bit of a n00b still.

The thing is, my parents have like 4 cars, so basically i can get a daily driver from my dad. I can invest my time, its not a problem. But you know everyone learns new stuff from someone, i've been reading these forums for about a half a year now. Maybe, i don't know much about dsm's, but atleast i can take care of them when they need. Thanks Calan, i really appreciate your help ;)

whenm yopu start it is a down hill battle LOL. I have been builing and d.d. dsm's/mitsu's since 1998. my wife has been d.d. them also for 10 years now. They are fun cars to have. you just need to wait to find the right one that is not all hacked up to start with and go from there.

I'd echo some of what has been said. It's pretty telling that both cars are propped up on random shit. The fact that they both conspicuously are not sitting on rubber is pretty telling. Usually you have to hunt to find something good, or get lucky. I fell into mine almost accidentally.

So after having sunk WAY too much into basic maintenance on my GST i've decided to get rid of it.

I'm having an exedy clutch kit put into it on tuesday and having it tuned shortly after, and at that point i'll make the final decision, but until then i wanted to put some feelers out and see how much i should be asking, as i've heard that aftermarket parts dont necessarily hold their value too well. The parts list is on my profile but i'll list it here too.

evo 3 16g turbo
255 fuel pump
new adjustable FPR
new E3 spark plugs/8.5mm wires
3"turbo back exhaust
Brand new aluminum radiator
Greddy BOV
Angel eye-headlights
Full body-kit
Aftermarket racing steering wheel, Racing Tach, and pillar-mounted gauges.

I also have another question. Currently whenever i hit about 5 psi boost it starts shooting black smoke out of the tailpipe and the boost starts climbing to like 15 psi real quick and i feel a huge loss in power. In addition to that it idles SUPER hard when i start it after its been sitting for a bit, it feels like it's running hella rich. It's throwing a CEL, Supposedly something from my fuel injectors, i have a brand new larger set to put in but i avoided doing so, i didn't want to make the problem worse. It doesn't have a boost controller, so I'm trying to figure out exactly whats going on.

What should the boost be without a controller on that evo 3?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like an injector might be sticking open, and that you have some pretty massive boost leaks.

Stock boost should be around 9-12psi.

Boost is climbing to 15psi because of how rich the car is running at WOT.
