I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

ok i have a fully built b16b engine in it, but anywise sorry but it was done on my phone, the descritpion is all him LOL.

please let me know as he wants to meet this weekend, does it seem safe setup psi for stock engine ? he said 300hp REALLY >? tuned on dsm link2.5 and he said sometihng about knock ?

also stock cltuch ,,, just wanting to know common problems i shoudl check out before proceeding with trade.

PEOPLE i know it looks good, im asking as a NOOOb to dsm what is all doen and is it good for stock cltuch and enigne ?

doe sit all make sensr ?? 14-15psi and creeps to 17, he has the external sayin gi can install it if i want etc,

stock cltuch ??

what are common problems i should ask ??

how do i knwo if original tsi ??
 
That's not too bad, but where's the dipstick and the heat shield for the manifold?

I'd do a thorough inspection on it, including compression and checking of the fluids etc.. If everything checks out, I think I'd go for it.
 
If it's actually been "tuned", make sure you get the files for the DSMLink, because if the battery resets then the tune is gone.....Another thing I've learned from personal experience: Make sure you get a cable which has a black adapter attached for the DSMLink. It is vital. Also make sure you get it transferred (account) or get his username and password for the DSMLink forums, they are very helpful. I realized all this after I bought my car and then the prev. owner told me he bought the car without the adapter/cable also, and he just used one from another DSM he had.....So it is basically a non-legit copy, and I have to buy V3 (which I am in a few days). J

No upgraded fuel pump? or fpr
It's says it has a external gate, but the pics clearly show that it's internal.
No oil dipstick....really!

300hp is highly unlikely on that setup.

That would make me wonder a little? Just make sure to check the basics. And the dsmlink cable as stated above is a must.
 
no he includes the external wastegate o2 housing etc that i can install my self or he said he can do it,

and he said picture were done will oil change so reason for dip stick.

and what are some things to do to keep temps low or other good mods ?

IM SORRY for grammar, but also stock cltuch ? and it it possibole for it to have 00hp at this point ?

and yes he included everything.
 
If he says he has 300hp and genuine dsmlink, please ask him for a file of that tune so we can see it and then judge wether it is "tuned" or not and making the power he says it is. And if it does in fact make that power than he should have no problem handing over the dsmlink file.
 
+1 on getting a log.. that will show whats really going on and if hes even close to 300hp

300hp @ 15psi isnt happening though. more like 250hp to the wheels is about right for his setup
 
yeah he said it has all that and can show it load on labtop etc, but without that file, the name of the parts legit ?? what can u c that would need to be done ? i c filter is right after the map , i think thats some hot air LOL, also external dump thing u think it makes sense ??

and stock clutch does that really hold 15psi or so ??

and looks like legit tsi or no ?

and he said he included the 660cc injectors ? for what LOL

Are you asking like is it possible to have all these things done for it and would it still run? Yes, its 'legit' if he really did put all this into it. I really doubt hes pushing 300hp on 14psi on an evo3 though. You probably will want to upgrade to an aftermarket clutch, like an act 2100. Make sure you get the cable, tune and login details for dsmlink. Also a good idea to do a compression test on it and see how the engine is doing. Also, you didnt mention any gauges, does it have them? Specifically a boost gauge and wideband(dsmlink)
 
so really, just need to know,:

does it look legit tsi ? yes
stock clutch and he said its fine ? I would grab a ACT 2100 just for peace of mind
knock light blink what did he mean ?> He has the check engine light come on at a certain knock count, this is all setup and changeable in dsmlink
external dump shoudl i install? Unless you are having problems controlling boost...no, but if you have plans on going bigger in the future I would keep it.
what things shoudl i listen/look for ? first few thigns to do like, re locate filter etc. thanks - relocate what filter? Listen for knocking, look for overheating, oil pressure, check the dipstick for metal flakes, shiny stuff (maybe that's why he changed the oil :shhh:) etc.
 
The external dump sounds right, he is including the injectors probably because he has nomore use for them and just in case you want to put them in sometime in the future. The stock clutch can hold up to about 300hp so that should be good, make sure there is no slipping and it still grabs hard. Also check for shaft play in the turbo, a little side to side is fine but no in and out movement should be present. Check compression, and listen very closely if you test drive it for any knocking sounds or anything that sounds out of the ordinary. If everything checks out you should be good. Go for it.
 
ok, yeha he has boost aguge for sure and mabey wideband idk, he said dif and all that has new gaskets/oil

so anything else i shoudl know about the tsi ?
