What is the best shift knob

Greddy all the way. I like mine and I have noticed that they are in a lot of other cars like Supras, 240's etc. That could be good or bad depending on your tastes.

Hey all, I was wondering if you guys knew of a ball-shaped shift knob that is weighted/heavy (doesn't have to be heavy necessarily), and screws on the stock shifter's threading? Maybe I'm dreaming...TIA though. :)

Thanks a lot, that's just what I'm looking for I think. Are there any others just for the heck of it, or for comparison purposes? Thanks again. :D

i kind of have a few questions for u fellow dsmtuners and i'm sure u guys can help. my first question is, how exactlly can i get my stock shifter knob off. i didn't really want to start tuggin' or pullin' on it, until i found out the right way to get it off.

alright, and in advance, i'd like to thank you guys for the info.

i have another question, and a picture request. i want to change my shifter knob, but i don't want an aftermarket one. i was hopin' to get a pic request for a second gen stock shifter knob off of a eclipse or talon(i'm sure there about the same), or a 3rd gen eclipse one. i was thinkin' of doin' an evo 8 one, but i don't really like how they look. thanks again guys. :thumb:

possible hot topic? could help many people out there like me. :D

^ so the shifter knob is screwed on is what your saying? and does it do any damage to the knob? < in case i end up puttin' it back on?

No, no damage should be done.

Pretty easy. i did it with my bare hands, so its no big deal.

Alot of folks here go from the horse dingy to 2g knobs. I bought an Evolution VIII knob for the heck of it and liked it alot. very small, lightweight. Ive got a momo knob on there now. I figured id start using it more since i DID pay 85 bucks for it.

Just like he said, No damage will be done. You can just twist the shift knob right back on if you decide that you dont want a different one! mine was like 6in. long so I just twisted it off and put on a different one.

rob.

This IS a manual transmission, right?

If it's _really_ stuck -which they can tend to get- pick up a set of those "Grip" pliers for ten bucks, the ones from TV with the rubber strap. A bit of shop rag over the teeth and it'll not damage it.... and people _do_ buy 1G knobs on eBay.

Beats me.

pics of the horse c0ck?

hah.

Actually i didnt mind mine much. it was kind of tall and hard to really quickly shift, but it was kind of cool in some retro early 90's way.

drive_eagle,
I personally like the 2g shifter. And I think most DSMers will reccomend it. I was going to get an EVO shifter but wasn't going to pay $80+ for a shifter.

One thing I would like to add is if you don't know how to take your shifter off please let someone who's qualified do your modding.

i just bought the greddy counterweight shifter..the one thats like a pound... off ebay...definate must if u get a short throw :thumb: 50 bucks shipped off ebay

just gettin' the correct info on doin' somethin' right. but i guess i should of automatically known that. and thanks for the advice about the modifyin' part, but i'm sure i know enough, and well i keep my cars stock lookin', so i guess u can say i don't know shit about interior/exterior modifications. but u didn't know that, just like i didn't know how to take my shifter knob off.

Slowboy Racing has a brushed stainless steel shift knob with the SB logo on it. It weighs at least a pound and looks great!

Yeah I got a counterweighted Greddy one and I love it. Except, durning the winter when I have to unscrew it everynight and put it in the house... LOL

Oh and I don't have any 2g pics of their knob, but machv.com should. I had one for awhile and it was nice. Did the job! Just remember, "Righty tighty, lefty loosie!" haha Good luck :thumb:

you can always use a zip tie to keep it flush with the boot if it doesnt go down far enough
