What is the average cost to rebuild a transmission?

I was just wondering what the average cost is to get a stock rebuild on a transmission for a 90 awd? What have you guys paid in the past?

ranges anywhere from $700-$1000 for a basic rebuild. TRE and ShepTrans is in the $900-$1000 and Dogbox Racing is $725.

To be honest, it might be smarter to "upgrade" to a 91+ tranny because the 90s have known problems but otherwise the price would depend on what in the tranny needs to be rebuilt.

well, there is a 91 tranny in my 90 awd right now. However, I dont have reverse. How do I make it work?

Could just have to adjust the shifter cable, I had the same problem and thats all I had to do. Only took like 15 mins too!

Three options,

1. Swap in 91' shifter assembly and cable.

2. Swap in a 90' main tranny shifter lever, you will have to knock out the roll pin that holds it to the shaft, difficulty of 9/10 but not impossible with the right tools.

3. Since the 91" tranny shifter lever is longer than the 90' lever, measure the length of the 90' lever, drill a hole on the 91' lever matching the measured length, nut and bolt your shifter bushing to the hole.

Yep a couple of us on here have had to adjust shifter cable and reverse was back!

ok hopefully i can at least get it to work. I really dont wanna go out and rebuild a tranny right now. I know it will need to be rebuilt eventually.
