i keep readig about stutter box being a good thing, and that only some cars have it. well what is it/what does it do?

it holds the RPM at a certain level. so when u have the clutch in , u can have the stutter box set to stay 6000rpm. so this is very usefull for launching because u don't have to hold the rpm manually, and also fo 'no lift shifting' this is when u hold the gas pedal down for the whole run, and just push in the clutch (rpms hold at 6000rpm) and shift, then dump the clutch.

You 1g people should go look at www.dsmchips.com - stutterbox, and a lot more, for your 1g and 2g. I've heard excellent reviews about Jeff's chips there. I'll know first hand when I install my chip in a few days.

or for everyone with a 1G the way to go is with a eprom ecu. you can do alot with an eprom ecu. you can do away with fuel cut, 2 stage or have a "shutter" start and many other things if you know what your doing. the only thing is eproms are expensive and not easy to get. the ones who have them usually hold onto them.

ehhh I don't recommend "chip performance upgrades" they usually carry side effects. In my friends intregra he got a chip, it improved performance..BUT it had a tendancy to have a rough idle and it bogged randomly sometimes.

mr talon skimmed the reason people get stutter boxes. a stutter box isnt really for holding a rpm. any monkey can keep a rpm steady for a launch.

the only reason we get stutter boxes is to build boost at a stop; just like a AT does.

uhh -- ya get a studder box when ya buy a msd-dis2 ignition. aint got nuttin to do with dsmlink.

DSM link is not only 2G related. It is just plug and play for a 2G the 1G needs to have the harness altered, but a donor car from a junk yard makes it easy. There are currently 2 (two) 1Gs in Utah alone that are running DSM link.

There are several ways to "get studder box" MSD DIS2, Crane even has a ignition module. then the Re-burned E-proms like keydiver at DSM chips or a used TMO off line. Then the already mentioned DSMlink. My friend builds 7PSI with a 14B at 4500 RPM. To bad his clutch is shot now, but the 2600 is on its way. It also helps at the line since you have less to worry about (trying to hold the car at X RPM).

I am going the MSD route (some complain about the longevity of the module due to heat but when mounted in the car, like the glove box, less problems are seen) besides the DIS 2 can alter the stutterbox RPMs in 250 RPM incriments. I just need a little boost when launching the FWD with 24" slicks. between 3k and 3.75K should be fine for me.
