So far i have the head torn off, torn apart, it's going out once my valves come in for port and polish, valve job and a rebuild.....

The next step is pulling the block out and stripping it down......having it machined and then having is reassembled.......

I had a friend do a quick price estimate and the computer mechanic labor program said it would be 1600 bucks just to reessemble the short block........ OMG

That was at 60 dollars an hour wich is the median price for labor around here.......

I have no idea what it takes, he said it would probably take 24 hours of work to reesemble the long block.......I had no idea that much work was entailed. I thought the bottom end was pretty cut and dry thing just very hard to get to. I guess I was dead wrong on that one.....

Anyway, are his prices good/fair?

Again this is just a short block assembly....

youch!

For comparison's sake, I was quoted around 400 for a full rebuild for labor only @50/hr with b/s removed.

The motor is being built right now, so I can tell you the exact amount probably in a week or so.

:notgood:

Unless your mechanic lost his arms in an accident and is going to assemble the shortblock with his feet its not going to take 24hrs. They are screwing you. Extreme Motorsports and Pruven performance are around my area, they are both big names in DSM performance and they charge 600-700 to have a shortblock built if you supply the parts. They have the reputation and build quality to charge alot more... some Joe Schmoe guy shouldnt be charging more than 600.

Go to RRE, they may have better pricing and they have plenty of experience.

I think he said there was some thing screwy with his program......I will have him check again............
