New 7bolt shortblock coming. what to buy?

Ok guys I've got a new 7bolt shortblock ordered from Mitsu in order to fix my CW. I've got about a week before it arrives so in the mean time I am trying to round up other parts I might as well go ahead and get while the motor is disassembled.

The Mitsu parts guy said that the new block won't come with a balance shaft. Do I still need a balance shaft elminitator kit?

Also I know I've read somewhere of people using some sort of ARP studs and some inserts to help reduce the likelihood of CW happening. Is that an option for me also?

So far my list is fairly short:
head gasket (MLS? what is that?)
intake mani gasket
exhaust mani gasket
timing belt

thx for the help, and dont tell me to go get a 6bolt :p :dsm:

Sorry, I didn't see your other questions in the original post, didn't mean to be short with you.

As for possible crankwalk fixes, I know machv offers this: http://www.machv.com/conracmbcadk.html but if you're ordering a block straight from Mitsu, I don't think you'll be able to have those or the ARP studs they're designed to be used with.

On the balance shaft, I'd ask the guy you talked to exactly what he meant by the motor not coming with a balance shaft. It seems like from an OEM shortblock, it would still have the balance shafts, but if the dealer you're going through is building it, they may have included a BSEK. So you need to find out from them whether it has been eliminated, or whether it just doesn't come with the pulleys and belts on already. You mentioned you need to get a new timing belt, so if you're engine does not have a BSEK, you will also need the balance shaft belt with that.

Is the dealer doing the work on your car, or are you ordering the parts and doing the labor yourself? If everything on your old block other than the rotating assembly is ok, you should be able to just swap over the majority of the parts, i.e. the front case and oil pump, and all the pulleys on the timing belt side of the motor.

MLS head gasket (multi-layered steel) is a four layer metal head gasket as opposed to the one layer composite head gasket that we have stock.

Or you could just go get a 6-bolt.. :)

no i just ordered the shortblock from mitsu.

the labor is going to be done at my shop.

As far as the balance shaft, he and the mechanic both said that it doesn't come with one . . . it is not there.

pretty much the only thing im getting is the same thing we would get if we ordered a shortblock from SBR or wherever (except i'm getting oem parts instead of forged rods etc.)

i'll call mitsu on monday when their parts counter is open and ask more info about the balance shaft.
