Now before everyone starts screaming at me for not putting a 6bolt in the car.. I do not have the time, money or motivation. I want a quick fix and I want to get rid of the car ASAP. I have a fully built 6bolt motor disassembled and for sale but I decided to go with a stock rebuild.

Anyways, I just need to clarify on the swap. I've searched but haven't found very good or informative information. I know I'll need a 6bolt water pump and my 2G head should just right on right? I also read something about using a 6bolt lower timing cover. No big deal. What about the timing belt tensioner though? One came with the shortblock but I don't know if it's any good. It's kinda rusty and what not. My 2G one is in great shape.

It's a non-turbo block, I'm mainly just using the block and crank. Everything else off my old motor was pulled. Rods, pistons, accessories, etc. I'm thinking about just buying new pistons, rings and bearings and boring it out .20 over. If not I'll just clean the surface rust off real well and get it honed if needed.

So in a nutshell, what all works and what all is needed to do this swap? :beatentodeath:

6 bolt tensioner/water pump, 2g head just drops on, i think you need to use 6 bolt head studs.
You also need to trim the mount where it touches the water pump. Not to familiar but i know this.

There are a few articles on this somewhere if you search i dont remember any of them except the one on vfaq.

If you are just gonna sell it, dont put more money into it. Just sell it.

That's why I'm just going 7bolt. I just want to get rid of it.

6bolt studs? I'm pretty sure it's still 7bolt ones.. I guess I'll find out when I tear the block down.

To put a 1G 7-bolt into a 2G you need to do all the same things as you would swapping in a 6-bolt. Trimming the motor mount and water pump, wiring the CAS, etc...

You would be much better off, and much easier finding a good 2G motor to swap in if you just plan on selling the car.

I've already done the 1G CAS swap. Also can't I just put the motor mount "plate" or whatever onto the block that was off my 2G? I have EVERYTHING from my 2G block except for the block itself.

People that say 7 bolts are no good, are snacky cakes. Let me have your 7 bolt turbo blocks/heads... I will pay you next to nothing for your "trash".

You know how PlayStation2's lasers burnt up really quick for a lot of people and stopped reading disks.... did that make people say, F THAT I NEED NINTENDO NOW.... nope.... but that's what's going on with all this 6bolt is better than 7bolt shenanigans.

The little girdle or whatever it's called is nice to have on the 7bolts. Build them right and they can be just as strong if not stronger then a 6bolt.

6bolt shit is cheaper though and has a better reputation. I'll be picking up a 1G AWD car in a year or so hopefully and will go ALL OUT on it. Hopefully a low-11 second E85 car. But the fact that I'm going into college in the fall, I need a dependable car instead of a jackstand racer at the moment.

1G motor mounts are completely different from 2G's. You would have to do the same trimming to put a 1G 7-bolt in as a 6-bolt.

Sorry Silver,
-The 1g 7-bolt motors also used the smaller (11mm thread) 12-point, 12mm head bolts.
