Hey guys wondering what your thoughts are for a IC for a 2g eclipse with a FP T28, running 18 lbs of boost. No cutting or mods necessary. Anything out there for me, or should I just go with stock smic hard piping?

You can find a Hahn smic in the classifieds sometimes. Your stock smic will get heat soaked pretty bad after a few pulls. I run a punishment fmic with a ets t-25 pipe. Theres a little to modify but I wont have to worry about heat soak running 23 psi hopefully soon and I did not see a increase in spool time cause it's short route. Plus I think a fmic looks badass.

Im sure they can help you out with that to you could probly find a 180* coupler somewhere also to use just make sure its a good brand name one. But you do indeed have to mod your car for it to fit but nothing to hard. Every short route kit on the market you have to mod the car. But its ultimately up to you wether you want to use a SMIC from Hahn or a FMIC for it.

I know there might be a current thread on this but for the vsrf, if I bought the u pipe from stm, what are the actual mods I would have to make on my car.

Remove the bumper support and fog lights, cut a notch in the radiator support bracket, and trim a little off the bumper. It's pretty straight forward and easy, but might be more than you're willing to do. Note, however, you can revert back to SMIC in the future if need be.

Here's a nice guide for a short-route install:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...autochrome-fmic-kit-w-short-route-piping.html

Note: with the vrsf kit, you can skip step 8 in that guide.

Here you go:
MKIV Supra Intercooler Install on a 2G DSM

You'll have to cut the hole that the upper intercooler pipe goes through and rig up some intake pipes/hoses...

IMHO, a front mount is worth it's weight in gold (or in this case, aluminum :D) The front mount will provide a much more cooler charge of air, reducing potential knock and giving you more power. Either way, you'll need to do some sort of modification. I'm not sure why you're so reluctant to, but modding is what being a "DSM'er" is all about man!

If you do decide to stick with a SMIC, I have an extra punishment racing hard uicp (flanged for 1g and Greddy bov) and tb elbow I could sell you :D

Haha I know man but my damn dad would snap if i starting cutting into the frame . Might just keep smic at 18 psi till I move for college in a few months then buy the FMIC, I like the long route better than the short route though, so I'm gonna go all out

You could also keep the stock SMIC and run water injection (it's an injector you drill into the uicp, usually in the throttle body elbow). Will cool the charge considerably but you will have to fill the water tank when it's empty. Just get the basic kit that kicks in when you're at a certain boost level.

Additionally, if you're considering running the stock SMIC or an aftermarket one, you NEED a ducting for it to get the best cooling efficiency. Without ducting air has too many choices to avoid it.

Ahh, there's the reason. Just do it at a friend's house or when he's not around. I doubt he'll notice :D (JK man, do what you got to do)

In this case, I'd still get in on the group buy and save it until then. Like I said, $290 shipped is too good to pass!

I like the long route better than the short route though, so I'm gonna go all out

Just remember the long route will introduce more turbo "lag," which is the time it takes for the intake tract to build significant positive pressure. This might not be a huge concern with a relatively quick spooling turbo such as the t28, but it's something to consider. Plus short route is just pure sex...

If I my dad helps, its for two seconds then be gets too frustrated and snaps and we start arguing LOL:p.

Now in that case short route is my new decision:) , I have all supporting mods and my tuner Nate from tpg tuning said FMIC TIME!!!! Just gotta convience pops! Thanks for all your guys help!

That's what the tech articles are for. They'll walk you through it step by step, so hopefully it will be more of a bonding experience for you guys :thumb:

Excellent decision! Good luck with it. Now you just need learn how to tune that beast yourself

:heystupid:

haha just kidding...sort of

I got the VRSF Kit as part of th group buy and it's a really nice piece. Not gonna find a better FMIC kit for under 300 shipped.
As far as installation goes, it's not like you have to cut the frame, it's just the crash beam.

Mine, it doesn't need a J-pipe uses stock routing, and the only thing you need to cut is the bumper support. See my pics in the gallery, if you need info i'll provide it if you're interested.

No funky routing, benefit of an FMIC and ease of installation. Pipes will just have to be fabbed at the local Muffler shop.
