Hey guys. I'm going to be cutting out rusty areas on my talon sunday and welding in new sheet metal. What gauge should I get? 16 or 18?

Huh? Tempering leads to a reduction of hardness and brittleness and an increase in ductility. You seem to be implying the exact opposite. If you can bend it by hand it's not tempered.
. I just need to know if 16 and or 18 gauge is okay to use?
