Hey guys. I am just wondering what the names of the gas stations that have above 93 octane gas are? I am not asking where they are located or anything, just the names of the places, like Shell or Cheveron or whatever. I think Kangaroo is one, how about the others? I wanna know the names so I can do a search for them in my area. Thanks a lot guys!

I dont really take notice but when I was pumping gas at "craigs gas station" i'm almost positive it was 'sunoco' before they named it craigs. Anyways they sell 94 octane... If that helps at all. I've heard rumors of i think its a texaco selling 100octane but never actually went to see if it was false information.

you can go to any small airport and purchase 100 oct LL .. which is Low Lead. you dont want to run this in your car all the time because the LL will start to gum things up if used on a regular basis. you may find 100 oct without lead. most of the airports dont sell the non lead because its rarley used in the airplanes.

also a quick note is that 100 oct LL has a green tint to it and 100 oct without lead has a blue tint to it. Its also refered to as Avgas. .. Oh and some of the small airports depending on state regulation wont be able to sell it to you if its not going into an "off road" vehicle. just bring a gas can and tell them its for a baja bug or somthing silly.

From what I hear about most 100LL is that it's really crappy gas. Not cause of the Lead content which will destroy a CAT if you happen to use one. But cause usually it's got a lot of contaminints in it. If you run this stuff often you would be wise to change your Fuel Filter on a regular basis like when you do your oil change. Personally I would just make your own Race Gas with that Toulile or whatever it's called. It works great and is pretty cheap to do. Just mix up a 5 gallon can with 1/2 gallon Touline and 4 1/2 gallons of 89 octane unleaded. You will have cheap 102 Octane fuel. if you use 91 it will be about 105 octane. I know it's in the Tech section of this site.

Sunoco up in PA sells a 94 octane at the pump, but it's normally an extra 10 cents per gallon over the 93.

Man I wish I lived on the East coast.. I have no idea why the mid-States to the West coast are forced to use 91-92 octane gas and the East coast sees up to 94 Octane.. I know Rebel used to seel 101 octane for like $5 a gallon but that was also like 6 years ago... I would not want to see what they are charging now... (I've sence moved from a Large city to a small town)

I'm from Las Vegas and Texaco sold 92 I believe... Some of them and some Rebels sold Trick which was like 101 or 105 race gas for $5/gallon...

You guys out west get shafted - every gas station that I've ever been to anywhere between New York to Florida all the way out to Louisiana has 93 octane gas, except for a few crappy places that only have 92.

As someone else mentioned, Sunoco has Ultra94 but I don't see Sunoco's a whole lot, usually only in the Midatlantic (NJ/PA/DE/MD) area. My experience with Ultra94 hasn't been really positive anyway - I think its a ploy because Sunoco gas is so crappy their 93 is like 89 and their 94 is like 91

I used to use Sunoco Ultra94 but now they've all converted to Ultra93 in my area  But onther than that all Mobil sells 93 which is the only other brand I will use. Oddly enough the old addage "what you pay for is what you get" seems to apply to gas too. NEVER look for the cheapest station

100 oct. LL does not have a lot of contaminants in it. Yes in time it will gum up the cat. If you are lucky enough to find an airport with 100oct w/o lead then that would be awesome. It tends to run about 4 bucks here though. But as far as contaminants go, all the airplanes have a 100 hour inspection due to an FAA regulation. They basically tear the plane apart from motor to airframe and then put it back together. They don’t mess around so im sure its pretty good. :thumb:

But if its easy to make your own race gas, or buy 94 somwhere on a regular basis then I would stick with that. Im limited to 91 here.

Hey whats up over here in long island ny . A lit bit further out east am pretty sure a exxon had 94 and if you go to some spots on the island they have 110 but only for sale if you bring a container just givin some imput :dsm:

I don't work on piston driven airplanes so I'm just saying what local racers in my area are telling me... I work on Turbin engines... (B-52 Crew Cheif) and JP-8 is a high grade Diesil... which helps none for any racer unless he has a turbojet engine under his hood... But everyone around here that tries 100LL says that it's totally unregulated as far as the filters it has to pass through so at times it's just fine and others it can have a lot of particles of crap in it... Yes the FAA makes you tear down your plan if it's a commercially build aircraft and their is a reason that these engines have to be rebuilt after only 2,000 ish hours... I'm not saying it totally from bad fuel but I can guess that it doesn't help much... anyways I'm jelous... I want to move out east.... BTW our 100LL here is about $2.40/gallon....

B-52 = Dirty Dirty Dirty emissions also  http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/bomber/b-52g-dfst8712398.jpg ...

you work on the G or H models? or are there any g models around these days? ..... If you could figure out how to cram an alison/rolls RB-211 or even a TF33 under my hood, Id let ya try :thumb: Although we would have to install reversers on the car, cuz I dont think a big brake system gonna slow me down at a red light ... OMG

AVgas is definitely not of a poor quality. It is strictly regulated by the FAA. A load of bad gas in your car is little more than a pain in the ass but bad gas in your plane equals CRASH!! It is true the lead will kill the cat quick but I've read that the 02 sensor is good for like 50 gallons.
