What fmic should i buy?

Today while my 1g eclipse gsx what at the shop a mechanic that works there told me i have the wrong fmic. I just have a jdm sports with the intake and exhaust on opposite sides, which i just mounted and haven't got around to piping yet. The mechanic said the ideal intercooler for DSM's are fmic's with same side intake and exhaust. Is this true. If so where can i get one for a reasonable price. And on that note, should i get a bar and plate or tube and fin. My current fmic is tube and fin, and with little driving already has damaged fins. Any feedback is helpful.

Pics of intercooler? I'm a bit confused by intake and exhaust, do you mean the inlet and outlet? If you mechanic is saying the intercooler should be single sided (inlet and outlet on the same side) he is wrong. Single sided intercoolers are by no means junk, but straight through provides the best flow and are usually larger. If your intercooler is getting damaged quickly, it means you should drive farther from the person in front of you.

Technically there is no "wrong" intercooler. All intercoolers do the same thing, the problem is does it fit your application, piping direction, size/dimesions, effciency etc. I am also confused by the intake exhaust side. Does he mean a design like the Spearco set up below? Or does he mean like the hahn intecooler set up:
