What ECU will work for 92 TSI?

My ECU fried and I'm looking into a new one but dont know what ones can mach on my car, I got the MD166260, do I have to get the same one or can I get a different # one? If yes which ones will work? thx again

simple rule for the 1g's. if you have a 90, stick w/ a 90 model ecu(fwd or awd cali or fed all will work w/ no issues) if you have a 91+ you can use 91-94 turbo ecus.

Yes the 91-94 turbo ECU's are interchangable.

Actually the Federal ECUs from 91-93 are interchangable within a engine, transmission and emissions type but in 94 all ECUs got the California style EGR and using a 94 ECU unmodified on a earlier Federal car will cause EGR CELs.

You can't swap between turbo and non-turbo. You can't swap a California for Federal. Swapping between automatic and manual trans will work but be sub-optimal.

You can use a 90 ECU on the 91-94 cars but you have to pop pins 6 and 14 to swap them.
Putting a 91+ ECU is a 90 car requires modification to the car or ECU along with swapping pins 6 and 14.

So I can interchange AWD with FWD with no problems? Damn I can't wait to put this baby on the road.

^^^ I'd recommend getting a socketed ECU now, so you dont' have to later if you ever plan on bigger power and or want better/easier tuning capabilities with DSMLINK
