a sensor on my dash that looks like a little castle or something to the left of the steering wheel came on today but goes on and off while im driving..what is it...what does it mean...and is it bad?

Someone else will surely chime in with the picture thing, Defiant is known for it. But seeing as how I'm at work and don't have it saved anywhere, I will be a nice guy and tell you.
It is the coolant sensor for the reservoir/overflow bottle. It means it is low on coolant, just go pour some in there and your little 'castle' light (it's actually a radiator, but whatever) should go away.
You might top off the whole system while your at it.

It's probably stuck at the bottom of the reservoir. Sometimes they don't float up like they're supposed to.

It's really not a problem. If you don't like the light and would like to spend money, then yeah, replace it. If you don't like the light and don't want to spend money, take the dash light out. If you don't care about the light, you can make sure you keep an eye on the coolant system and just leave it be.
And the pic I referred to is very well displayed by MrBoxx's post. :thumb:
