I've seen 4g63's with silver, black, and red valve covers. Can anybody explain to me what the difference between them is? My car is a 2gen gst with a red valve cover.

Dull silver is all USDM DSM's, and JDM EVO III's. I believe the red is JDM Galant VR4's. Not sure about USDM GVR4's and anything else. Anything other then red or silver has been painted.

silver = lazy, black = sleeper, red= ricer

Seriously it's a valve cover, by itself it means nothing.

mine was silver, red, and brown. Turns out that it meant that the seal on my oil cap was bad and needed to be replaced now its just red and silver haha.

Depends on the place you buy from. One shop paints the cover black to distinguish a 6-bolt, silver for a 7-bolt, and blue for a built 2.4L stroker. Red and silver are the stock colors though.

(Mental note, sandpaper the lettering on my black cover)

Ahhh shit.. I just had my JDM cover re-powder coated red and polished the Mitsubishi and other lettering. I didnt know red ment ricer or I woulda gone with pink or purple :D

Well as far as I'm concerned...

Red - valve cover with the red coating still on
Silver - coating came off, or was sanded off
Black - aftermarket painted or powder coated.

But don't let ANYONE full you, the Silver Valve Cover is the best, by removing that red coating on the valve cover you save at LEAST .000000000000000000000000000001 LBS, which means less rotating mass, which means more horsepower! AND If you Don't BELIEVE ME ITS YOUR LOSS BUDDY!

Heres a real answer to the question.

Silver with red raised letters is off all u.s. spec dsm 2.0s

Red is off of the u.s. spec galant vr4 and the jdm cars and it says mitsubishi instead of 16valve :thumb:

so jdm=ricer, umm i think not :nono:

o ya just for the hell of it the u.s. spec galant 4g63, it says mitsubishi rather then dohc and it silver with red raised letters

if u want to buy a new valve cover go to machv and get one, but imo its pretty stupid, so basically you could get one that says either mitsubishi, 16valve, or dohc, and even though i gave the correct color combination, many companies make the fake b.s. valve covers with the wrong color combos or wrong words and if you get one of those everybody that knows dsms will laugh and probablly do a bit of pointing :tease: , I dont no dsms that well yet, but I do know cars and I no my colors pretty good so Ill be laughing along with the veteran dsmers, so if you want the real thing go to machv, but still I dont understand why anyone would want to get one of those.

Why would you laugh at the color on a valve cover? Mine right now is dirt color but will soon be black.

Ya who gives a shit what color a valve cover is? Alot of people like to customize the color to match there car or whatever. Nothing wrong with that.

Personally I went with a jdm cover because I happened to have a few and I liked the red. Although I repowder coated it red so it looked new.

Car is a Talon, cover says Mitsubishi. Engines Mitsubishi soo #### it. I dont care if anyone laughs, its my car :p
