What does white marks at the bottom of the turbo/gaskets mean?

Is it just from water? I don't feel any exhaust leaks but I am chasing a very difficult problem with boost fade.

Do white marks possibly mean exhaust leaks?

What gasket are you talking about exactly? White on exhaust could mean it got really really hot so possibly a cooling issue?

I don't know enough about turbos themselves to identify what I am trying to say.

Maybe I could shoot some pics later.

Well what is on the other side of the gasket? Like the turbo is on one side and then you have the gasket and then you have????

Steel or composite head to manifold gasket? White residue can come from the first heat cycle of some materials.

This is actually further downstream from the manifold...close to the turbo?

I'll have to check again when it's light out.

it could be running lean..... Post a pic
