Tape and newspaper, playing cards, plastidip, etc. etc. etc. That honestly looks awful :-/ I'm not a fan of rattlecan anything though so I'm biased. But something other than spraypaint would've looked a tad bit better.

I'll do overkill on covering the tire on the other 3. I'm just going to rattle can for now because my whole car is actually rattle canned (profile picture isn't up-to-date). Thanks for the suggestions though!

Ok so lets see if i can help you out a bit. Grab a rag with some mineral spirits and clean the wheel. Then go to lowes and buy a can of rustoleum paint, some foam brushes, high grit sandpaper (1200+ grit and some polishing clothes. Mix rustoleum with 50% paint thinner. (id pull the wheels off, tape the tire off).
then follow this schedule.
Take your paint mixture and apply it to the wheel. We want this to be very thin.
Let dry 1 hour.
Apply coat 2.
Let dry overnight.
Using your sand paper, wet sand the wheel anywhere you see little dibits (orange peal looking).
dry wheel.
rinse and repeat 5 times.

Now its time consuming. but if you do it right, when your done you will have some very nice shinny white wheels with rustoleum paint on them. Take your time. Keep your layers even. and when your done, you should be able to see your reflection in them. Take your polishing clothes and buff them either by hand or buffer.

My bro in law did his whole car like this ecept he did 14 layers. very deep, very reflective. cost $200

Well thank you very much! Doesn't sound too hard or expensive to do. I'll probably have to hold off on it until I get all of my performance out of the way and maybe a new set of rims. (The previous owner of the rims hit WAY too many curbs.).

Not hard at all. Just very methodical. Brain damage. And this works for anyone wanting to repaint your car for around 200 bucks. It'll take you a month or so. But you will also have to add either a spray on clear coat or wax. Bro in law waxed his. Off and on.

They can't be that bad could they? You should post up some pictures. i would still try and repair them as much as I could. Not only for it to look nicer, but to get some practice on repairing rims just incase some damage happens in the future to some nicer rims that you may buy.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I've seen these before and thought it looked good and they did a good job. But the typical just sprayed on rattle can that takes a few minutes is the look I don't like. If he did something like that, which isn't expensive at all, it would look much better.

They would look fine for a winter wheel if you would have masked the tire off to prevent the overspray.

If you let the air out of the wheel it will be easier to get stuff in between the wheel and tire or just grease the tire with vaseline and rub off clean when painting is done.

Meh they look fine. Especially if they're curbed and what not.

Suggestion: take some Brake Cleaner and spray it onto some ear cleaning Q-tips and clean the over spray off the tires. Then it'll look just fine.

Get rid of over spray and they would look ok. Again rattle can jobs can be good like any other paint its all in prep. So keep trying and learn from each trial and youll learn a lot. Not bad if this is your first try with spray painting.
