To start things off my hp goal is 500. I will be tuning the car on e85 and using a 8 blade hx40, with a .70 ar bep housing. I was looking at what cams to purchase and I was wondering what would work best with the turbo. I was looking at getting either hks 280 or comp 001200. So I was wondering with would work best with my setup and hp goal. If there is a better option please let me know. Thanks

I am here: Google Maps

Im Running HkS 264/264 and made 610hp 560tq

Shouldnt be on nothing smaller than the Kelford 280s or FP4rs to get the most out of the Super 40s but since you have the smaller 56mm I'd say the Kelford 272s would be an excellent compromise.

There is another question you need to ask yourself when choosing your cams besides what will work best for your turbo. That question is what will you be using this car for? Are you building a car that will see the track more than the streets or are you looking for something that will be mostly a DD with the occasional track days? Maybe autoX? Maybe you just are looking for a dyno number. Knowing what the purpose of the car is will go a long way towards helping select the right cams.

I have a similar hp goal for my car but with an FP 3052 turbo. I have been looking at the available regrinds. The dsm graveyard 274s have caught my eye as a suitable candidate. Half the price of those Kelfords.

The car won't be a dd but it's for the street. I was going for a street machine and the occasional day at the track. Mostly weekend car..

I would run the Delta K272 cam, it's what I will run on my Super 40 later on next season. I have experienced these cams first-hand in BrokenTsi's car. Until then I will rock my Delta H272s.

O.P.- Fix your signature before I come to your house and steal your car. ;)

Justin would never steal your car... We all know DSM's don't run very long. No way they would work as a get away car, but if your looking for a get caught car, DSM it is! ROFL

On a serious note. I'd consider the GSC S2 cams for your HX40. Are you building a 2L or 2.3 / 2.4 setup?

He has an HX40.. Auto X is out. at this point he has already done a poor job selecting his turbo, he should have took this all in consideration a long time ago. Sacraficing way too much low end power adn spool on a turbo that is capable of putting down 100 more whp with out breaking a sweat.

You picked a great turbo to reach those goals but you seem to be misinformed about cam profiles..

The grave yard 274s are no where near the size of the 272 Kelfords, price is irrelavent. You might want to do some better research. The Kelford 272s are 'larger' than ALL of the other 280 labeled cams that other companies offer. The only way to get around the price are the Delta K grinds.

My goal is at least 500... My supporting mods will be able to hold above that number... I read
that whole thread about testing the cans and the lift and duration of the different cams..

It will be a 2l can't get away when the timing belt snaps.

Why does everyone insist a big cam is not streetable? The Kelford 280/276 I have in this motor now runs just fine on the street, atleast it did on the last setup.

If you aren't driving like a meth addled teenager on public roads it shouldn't matter anyways.

Also, FWIW I had the very first set of Graveyard 274's Jon got in from the cam shop down the street, as well as the first set of 272's once degreed in they were great.

The measured lift on my 274 was considerably more than what is currently advertised IIRC, so take that as you will. It was something like .441 when accounting for the shim. Never got a proper cam card with either set though. For the price he offered me to be a guinea pig I couldn't say no thats for sure.

Cheaper than 1 BC cam at the time. LOL

Logged 64.x lbs/min one night that spring, using an S259 @ 37-38psi in the bolt-on housing with the 274s. They seemed to do the job.

This was all back in like Jan 2010 though.

OP you have a relatively large compressor, take advantage of it and get some big bumpsticks and some valvesprings that can handle it.

I made 680whp with BC272s. Ive never had problems with them but Im sure theres more power to be had with better cams. My friend had to switch from a kelford 280 down to a 272 with a 67mm turbo cause the car wouldn't get on the converter.

Wow just checked out the DSM Graveyard site and the 274s are only listed at .408" Max Lift!

Did I get a factory freak, were the prototypes supposed to be that big, or are there tolerances that far off? WTF

Anyways, they sounded mean and pulled like a freight train through 9k... Wonder what grind I got? their 280 is only listed as .402"

Anyways I don't really buy from them anymore because of delays, mistakes and weirdness/inconsistencies like that.

Jon is a nice guy, and I hope he does well.. but they always seemed to be hiring and firing.

Anyways sorry for the OT rambling.

Thank god I found this thread I'm second guessing my idea of running gsc s2 cams with an hx40 cars not going to be a daily it's hopefully going to be a weekend grudge racer/60 roll car shooting for 500+(cars a 5 speed so no torque converter issues here)
