I have a 2g but can no longer keep it due to no space for it. I intend to keep the engine but would like to know what else I should keep. I plan on getting another dsm(better condition) in the future that is not convertible or swap a car with my 4g63t motor. I know I should keep the ecu, engine, trans, stock ic(just incase) I'm open to suggestions on what else should be kept before junking car or maybe selling chassis.

If things are oem then items such as handles, bumpers, trim if in good condition, alot of those are discontinued so keeping good items now is a good thing

All depends on what shape things are in. If everything is in better good shape I would try to keep the whole car. Just depends.

He said he doesn't have the space for it, so maybe a box or two of the most important parts. ECU, small trim pieces, Cruise Control module, shifter knob if it's the oem leather one and in good condition, possibly the sunroof window and rails if it has any and not rusted out, MAF sensor, throttle body and elbow, alternator if it's good still, AC bracket, Evap canister and solenoids (for people in California wanting to pass emissions), but I just saw you're from there so definitely keep all the evap/emissions related items because the next DSM you get might miss some and you wont pass inspection.

Those are the things that I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, if you can't find space for the whole front bumper, save just the foglights because they're super hard to find and high in demand, even over here in Europe!

Front fenders, especially the drivers side, are getting harder and harder to find.

So I'm on a DSM part scavenger hunt right now, and I wonder if it would make sense to keep the whole car in a storage unit as long as it has excellent parts, because you never know what you will need and when?

The struggle is real. Sometimes I feel compelled to paint white stripes all over my car and name it Waldo. It can feel like that.. you search and search, and just when you think you found the part-- nope! It's either sold, or it's not in the condition you are looking for..

It's not all bad though, I've met some pretty awesome people on my scavenger hunt, and I've gotten lucky and have actually been able to source the vast majority of the things I need.. But I'm not kidding when I say there have been some real challenges, and they have not been cheap. So I have to wonder if it doesn't just make sense to keep a shell and pick it dry over time like a Thanksgiving turkey? Lol

That is why I have several WHOLE parts cars. When I can pick up the whole car for $300 or less, I do for all of the parts that are getting so hard to find.

I really want to keep the car, front and rear bumper are plastic. Side skirts are really dinged, front bumper reinforcement (metal rectangular thingy) is banged too. Seems car had an accident that wasn't registered with the car. Boy ole boy if I told yall the car I found around 120 miles north from where I'm at is In perfect conditions( as it seems) except a head problem on the car. My problem is I needed a car and I got an mr2 spyder >.< 2 weeks later is when I saw this beautiful 2g up for sale. Major reason I cant keep car is because of my non existent garage and space to have the car in. Oh and I also haven't changed the title to my name since I got the car in February of this year. I'm so jealous of the freaking sexy dsms I've seen in my area, easily best cars I've seen in my area that aren't exotic or super cars.
