I am trying to figure out my transmission fluid leak. I keep having to refill the Master. I thought it was the clutch slave cylinder but when I looked, it wasn't wet. What I did notice was the top of my transmission was soaked. Does anyone know where it would be leaking from? There isn't much room to dig around without disconnecting things to take a closer look. My clutch pedals at times doesn't come back up all the way after shifting so I have to pull it up with the tip of my shoe. It doesn't slip or grind in any gears. Air in the lines from the leak????

Also, how would I know if I have a 2g or 1g motor in my car? Another Eclipse owner seen my engine and was confused because the setup wasn't the same as his 2g Eclipse. Different intake, different sensor locations and the fuel rail was even different.

Isn't there a hard-line connection right above the transmission before it wraps around to the slave cylinder?

Your shift linkage may be obstructing your view of where that line is.

Any time you are losing hydraulic fluid, you can guarantee air is getting in.

How did you check the slave for leakage? Did you pull the boot off the slave to see if it was wet? If it is then it's leaking. Also, check if the master is leaking by the boot under the dash (behind the clutch pedal). If both of them are good, it's most likely the line or the fitting(s) are the culprits.

As for your engine check out this link. GL

Check the hose that goes from the line to the black canister on the clutch line. IF you are leaking brake fluid from the master res, than that isn't transmission fluid. The transmission fluid is separate from that.

Here are some photos. Hope they show up.

The oil on the transmission is likely from a leaky valve cover gasket. Pull the boot back on the slave and check for fluid in it. If it is dry than look under the dash where the clutch master rod comes thru the firewall and see if it is wet.

Ok, so it is now raining outside. haha. Under the dash I pulled the rubber boot off and it was dry. I'll go pull the slave boot off when the rain slows down. So it is supposed to be totally dry inside that boot?

Yes, not a drop of oil should be in that boot.

question, which side do I check it from? The small side with the bar? Or pull the boot off the slave cylinder itself and check?

those are stamped onto my block.
What does the bottom row of letters and numbers mean? I know what a 4G63 is.
I've searched and searched to figure this out, but as of now there isn't anything popping up with an answer.

Any clue as to what these plugs go to? the single plug i found shoved under my fuel rail. the other two this plugs i found hanging underneath in between my engine and firewall.

The plugs are for the ac compressor and the ignition condenser. Was the slave leaking before you pulled the piston out?

The slave maybe had a drop of wetness if that. But as fast as im losing fluid and having to fill it up doesn't match up with that leak. I am confused. So i replaced the piston seal and spring with a new one to see if the leak stops. I am going to bleed it tomorrow and go from there. I wish someone was local and could just look at my engine compartment and tell me where all these extra vac lines and sensors that aren't even hooked up are for. This engine was so mickey moused it's annoying.

I didn't replace the whole slave cylinder. I took out the piston and installed a new piston, spring and both rubber seals. I don't have a floor jack so I could get under the car to do the full install.

Nope, no ramps. I live in an apt so i cant even drive it up a driveway curb.haha. I recently moved to this area so no hook ups or buddies to help me out. I will figure it out though.

Update.
So I replaced my clutch slave cylinder, bled it and test drove it. Topped off the fluid and went to bed. Drove her today across town and the highway then check fluid. It was low again but not empty. Topped it off again and drove her down the highway and back home. Checked fluid and it was still full. Hmm. Was it low this morning because of a leak or is that normal after bleeding for the first time? If it's low tomorrow after driving her I am going to assume the master or the rubber hose going to the master is leaking. So stressful. The line from the master all the way to the slave is metal. I found a metal container in between the master and slave. Could that be allowing some air in at all even though it is dry outside of it?
