Ok guys, I went for a hard ride yesterday. Up and down the blue ridge mountains riding real hard with a very nice RX-7 and mustang GT. Before I knew it my car was running real hot on the ascend, staying about three quarters of the way up to almost in the H. I think this has to do with a thermostat not opening, or something to that extent because I have both of my fans switch to run full blast. It can be weird when I turn my fans on, it will actually make temp rise real quick then slowly lower but not far enough down to make me feel safe.

The next problem I had was that I was leaking oil from the half moon shaped thing on my valve cover, I cant find a lot of info on it but did find that I can take it off and reseal it with high temp silicone. Should this work?

I blew my VC gasket too, luckily I had a 1 year replacement on it. I need to do a valve stem seal replace, I feel like I am leaking boost from the combustion chamber into the head causing me to pressurize the head under high boost driving.

I was riding on 15 lbs. today taking names though. The guy in the rx7 was amazed and buddy that rode with me had his hands out the sunroof like he was on a rollercoaster.

Yet AGAIN, is your car tuned for 15psi? Last time I check that car was only tuned to like 8psi and if you are running hot you could have blown the headgasket. Of course you need to do some troubleshooting before just saying it is and pulling the head to make sure. Also, this oil coming out of your valve cover and you "blowing" the valve cover gasket is a clear sign that you have some crank case ventilation issues that you need to fix or you will continue to have this problem.

Thats cool man... I actually went up caesers head to brevard and back to pickens. It was a hard ride... and yes I have been told by glow ryder that bad valve stem seals can leak boost into the head causing my valve cover to blow. And yes my car has been tuned for 15 psi. 11 on the AFR under hard boost and 14-16 under easy driving.

You don't have to ask me about the tuning man I promise (pretty much tune daily), do you think it could valve stem seals causing the crankcase ventilation. I just really don't want to pull the head for the head gasket but I guess it might be that time.

Update- I have been told to let the car sit and idle for about ten minutes then to rev it up. If i blow blue smoke, then its valve seals. I blew blue smoke, valve seals. Correct?

Generally speaking, yes. However, bad stem seals usually rear their ugly head right at start up and oil consumption usually tapers off during warm up. If you are blowing smoke the whole time I would look at the piston rings...

You need to trobleshoot. In one post u say the seals are shot almost missing.. thats one problem. Wont cause overheat thi.
you need to do a compression check. This will help us determine how the rings are etc.
If your over heating.. are you missing fluids? Ie coolant is missing?
Let the car cool and check the tstat.. if you see a :"milkshake" like fluid or anything besides what good colant should look like.. that will be a dead give away of Head gasket. . I think you have more then one issue with at least one of them being serious... thu why u got the car so cheap... do the troubleshooting and report back.. stop making new posts about the same thing...;p

Your homwwork:
Snap pix of the valve seals
do a compression check
Check for milk shake.
Observe if smoking where its smoking from and color
check coolant level
Perhaps do a boost leak test to pressureize the system.. if that pops ## dipstick our then we know its leaking badly into the crank case.. you may be able tonhear it coming thru ## valve seals if the vc is off.. if its co.ing thru the exhaust.. ###### leaking thru rings.

Milkshake!!! Ha ha. You have been in the game too long. I have another twelve hour shift then im going to get to it. I did a boost leak test and it pressurized to 20lbs. with no dipstick popping out. I did have one or two small leaks but nothing major. I'm going to try to blt test with valve cover off. We did compression check about 2 weeks ago and they were all within 150 +- 10 psi. Taken into consideration it has 8.8.1 low compression pistons. If I have enough energy tomorrow night i'll get into it and post pics.

:shhh: dont jinks the rings. I'm not ready financially for a complete overhaul.

Imo.. 150 sounds low even with lowerd compression.. i thing it sbould be 180-190s still

do a leak down. i dont the rings are bad, but i dont think they are great either.. bur lets sea those valve seals.
