I bought my 1992 talon tsi a few months back with a blown head gasket and i have replaced that but now the car only turns over with no spark or fuel all fuses and grounds and relays have been checked and i bought the car not running for those of you that are wondering and when i turn my ignition on the check engine light dosent even flash or turn on i am gonna check all grounds and power wires going to the ecu tomorrow so im beginning to think my ecu is dead what do you think?

If the CEL doesn't turn on the ECU is very high on the list but you need to check the MPI fuse on the battery, that the ignition switch input reaches the ECU and that the CEL light isn't burned out.

Normally I just check the fuses with the ohmmeter and then pull the ECU since I have tools to check it quickly but I'm listing the others so you don't have a false positive when the problem was a bad bulb or fuse.

If I remember correctly there are a few errors on the VFAQ pinout. ECMTuning has better diagrams.

How much are these ECUs? I think mine might be fried too. The idle keeps jumping around and unstable while there is a distinct burning smell coming from under the hood, the plastic burning smell. I have a 97 Talon ESi.

well i found my ecu and tested all the connections and my ecu is the cause of all my problems.:hellyeah: my problems are solved.

Make sure to check your ISC for shorted coils. IC105 is blown on that ECU and that's one of the two for the ISC. If the ISC is bad it will blow the drivers on any other ECU you hook up to the car.

It looks like that ECU died from the 12v filter cap shorting.
