Well, I've been having issues with lifter tick in my car. So this weekend I removed all the lifters and cleaned them out real good and got it back together. And they never quieted back down after I ran the car for a few minutes. They were ticking loud as hell. So I went to shut the car off and noticed the oil pressure was really low and the car was getting hot, hotter than it ever has when I have had it running. So I'm kind of thinking WTF? So I go and look under the car to make sure there is no oil draining, there isn't, and oil is still showing full on the dipstick. Then I popped off the oil cap and there is milky crap everywhere. I guess it popped the headgasket. The only time I could think of it happening was yesterday when I took it for a quick spin to make sure that it was boosting fine after replacing the exhaust manifold. It did boost fine, in fact, it built to much pressure. I suppose that's what did it.

I have been home from Iraq for 7 months now and still haven't gotten to drive this POS on the road. I think I'll be doing an entire engine rebuild before I leave for Germany in June. This blows.

If you really just want to drive it, just throw a head gasket on there and go for it. But if you want to go faster and start changing turbos and such, then do the rebuild.

That was more of a rant than anything. I'm a little annoyed right now.

And it will be a rebuild for sure, well more than likely a 2.4, anyways that's the plan.

You realize that your playing with a 20 year old car that has been rode hard and put away wet more times than a worn out stripper?

Your not just going to build an engine, and have everything be "allright", I'm sure the trans is shot, as it the tcase, and rear end. Not to mention the suspension, brakes, electrical, ect....

Anyway, before you get all huffy, go buy a cheap mechanical gauge and plumb it into where the sender should be. Look to see 10-20psi at idle, and 60+ when reved up.

The milky oil in the oil cap is normal this time of year. Its just condenstation. Look at the dipstick for water contamination.

The lifter tick is normal. I've not had a motor that didn't tick.

If the car is getting hot, theres a good chance you have a stuck thermostat. Old ones do that. I've also had "EVERY SINGLE" cheap parts store one I've bought fail in the first year.

I know exactly how old the car is and what to expect from it. This isn't my first DSM, nor will it be my last. I have gotten to drive the car a few miles, and everything else seems to be in good shape, other than the engine. I'm not expecting everything else to be 100% ok, but it seems pretty good. I'm not going to go and put a cheap gauge in it to check the oil pressure. I had no problems before cleaning the lifters and now I do. I'm going to assume that it was because of what I did. The dummy light never came on. And the thermostat isn't stuck it's brand new, and you can actually see the temp gauge drop when it opens up. And I know a little lifter TICK is normal, however, a lifter SYMPHONY/ORCHESTRA/MORSE CODE TYPING MACHINE is not. It sounds like a ####ing blacksmith shop under the valve cover. LOL

And "huffy", really?

Mainly cause it was about the engine in the car itself. I suppose if a Mod wants to move it to the hangout or something they can.

But even at that, you can see that it does have some tech value. Bastarddsm made a few points.
