So who has ran a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE 1g dsm with a welded center diff?

I've read a bunch of threads sayin tight turns are an issue but of course everyone is referring to awd cars.

Lookin for pros and cons vs a high $ LSD.

I drive my car 100% on the street, jus cruising around town and to work (90% freeway) occasionally. 3 - 5k/year

You own an Eclipse GST, which is Front Wheel Drive, therefore you do not and cannot have a center differential.

You can however weld the "front" differential in your transmission, and what that will do is lock your front wheels to spin at the same time no matter the speed or your grip which is great if you're using it for drag racing... maybe, but probably not. If this is going to be a street car I would suggest to just pick up an LSD front diff, they are the same for AWD and FWD.

The binding that you are referring to in AWD DSMs that have welded center diffs is because as the front wheels are turned the rear wheels want to rotate at the same rate which is why tight turns can be difficult and will cause excessive, that why the rears will chirp and screech.

Given the front wheels have to steer and you're 100% street driven.,...well it doesn't sound like a good idea. Have people done it? Probably. Would I do it? Not a chance. Good tires, properly maintained suspension and if necessary an LSD diff. You gotta pay to play...mostly.
