welded center diff behavior...

ok so i just got my 1g awd tranny back from getting a rebuild. its got oem gears, double synchros, shot peened shafts some other small things and a welded center diff.
ive got about 300 miles on it and decided to do a couple 2nd gear pulls. i noticed that one of the front tires always pulls loose now. well i think its one it might be both idk. but i was wondering if this is normal behavior for a car with a welded center diff. to my understanding all four wheels should get equal power now but in 1st and 2nd it will spin the front tire/tires. it doesnt feel like a fwd when it spins though because its still pulling really hard. it still has an open front differential too. could it be that its just transfering most of the power through one of the front wheels with the least resistance? any help would be appreciated, thanks
 
i have a 95 awd talon, im getting my trans built and a center diff spool, and i have the factory rear diff, ill let you know if i can tell the same thing with my car here soon. the spool is supposed to make it 50/50 power to the front and back
 
yea im still running a open diff up front, welded center and factory viscous lsd in back. im thinkin its just putting all the power to the wheel with the least resistance. im fine with that i was just hopin the welds didnt break in the center diff or somethin but i checked the gear lube and theres no metal shavings or anything in it so im guessing its still holding.
and yea awdboosted1 keep me updated with the way your car acts with the spool.
also what kinda power are you makin lacroixdp? just for reference towards my car.
 
I still think that both these cases are a little unusual. I was more commenting on possibilities. It's not so cold that the tires are hard. My green talon squats and wont bark one tire right now. On that car, I have a 14b at 18psi and a FMIC with fuel support, ported head, hard pipes, CAI, 2.5" exhaust. No welded diff, LSD rear, open front.
 
With a welded center diff the front and rear diff will be getting exactly the same input RPM.

Under hard acceleration weight transfer will cause the front tires to have less traction than in the rear.

With the open front diff one tire can break loose and waste all of the power going to the front.
 
Just wodering, why did you choose the welded diff? Are you only racing straight lines? I've read on here that people with welded diffs kinda dislike it for DD. Just my .02

There's several advantages to the welded center diff. It takes one of the most unreliable parts of the transmission and makes it the most reliable component. They are virtually impossible to break if welded correctly. It is also quite a bit cheaper than a 4 spider center diff.
 
X I know I did not like my solid diff as a DD. Thats just me I am sure some people love it. I had a similar prob with mine. It turned out to be a combination of weight transfer and crap tires. Both factors were allowing the front passenger wheel to break loose under heavy acceleration and launch but only in first and second gear third,fourth and fifth had no issue. I put a set of bfg G force TA tires on her and that helped A LOT. ROFL rainy days are another story. I also ended up re tuning my suspension which also helped out. I was so afraid the shop that rebuilt the tranny did something wrong but that was not the case. The mods on that car included a bullseye 20g and all supporting mods. I had the boost set to around 19 psi if I am not mistaken. suspension was full tein, moog adj joint's, poly bushings all around. I MISS THAT CAR R.I.Pieces

Yes. You hit the nail on the head. The center diff goes first. If you weld it. It goes last even after a tightly shimmed fresh shep tranny shreads itself. I'll like my welded center diff for daily driving because I actually want to drive my dsm with a little power under the hood daily :). I'll just walk a little farther in the parking lot if the turning looks too tight. I know a little welding, so it is free for me to do. . .
 
well i found out what was wrong with it. the people who rebuilt my tranny put the wrong center diff shaft in it so it has just been spinning inside the transfercase. im taking it in monday to get it all fixed free of charge. its a little upsetting though because they had 4 weeks to work on it and they still got shit wrong.
and i chose a welded center diff because my viscous coupler was worn out and i got it welded for 75. and i plan on using the car mainly for drag racing and im not concernec about drivability either way.
