So here is my problem, my car has 700 miles on it now, check my profile for mods, I ran 12 psi (min.) up until now, I turned up the boost to 15/16 psi. I took it out for a spin and after a good pull 2nd and 3rd, held right around 15 psi just fine, then when I slowed down and hit the throttle again, I noticed a whistle when it spooled from 4 to 8-10 psi, then it goes away when fully spooled, and instantly goes away when the BOV opens. It does it every time like clockwork, and also only at partial throttle. I took my BOV apart, the diaphram looks to be good. I'm also curious that when I blow into the outlet of the BOV, a litltle pair goes in and out of the little nipple on the BOV, is this normal? The whistle sounds like the BOV sound. I tried turning the boost back down to min and it still makes the same sound. My BOV is recirculated, could I be drawing air through that little nipple? Please help!! :ohdamn:

Also, almost all parts are new, except BOV which has 70k+ miles on it, and I adjusted it 1 turn "harder" when I turned the boost up, FYI

Mine did it too when I put on my ETS FMIC. Mine was a boost leak in the upper pipe leading the to the TB. The coupler just needed tightened down. If you do a BLT you should be able to hear it whistle when it pressurizes.

All my couplings are new 4-ply silicon with t-bolts, I visually inspected them and they are all tight as hell, I guess I will buy supplies to do a BLT tomorrow, maybe a the TB shaft seals, my TB has 160k on it...

it's probably not a coupler he probably has the same issue i do . If you are venting to the atmosphere you have a greddy type S you will want to adjust the screw on the top alittle harder or even in some cases alittle softer . Just trial and error really . I had to tighten mine to get mine to stop . It is a boost leak though so i suggest recirculating with it . The spring might be worn out as well if thats the case i would look into getting a new spring for it . I had the same issue . I recirculate mine now . Just some advice really . Also do you hear the whistling at idle as well ?

Go to sleep, Dave!! Do a BLT. Mine was leaking at the gasket once it got warm. A little RTV solved that.

Not a 1g, its a Greddy type-s (check profile), it is recirculated. I'm going to do a BLT tomorrow night when I get home from work. I do have a question though, should I be able to suck air from the outlet of my BOV? The air comes from the small nipple, I put my finger on it and it stops, I'm thinking this may cause a whistle from vacuum from the intake pipe when the turbo spools up since it is recirculated. Should I hook up the small nipple? I dont want any unmetered air sucked into my motor :nono: through that nipple. Sorry for asking so many questions before a BLT, I just dont have the material to do it yet and I am overly paranoid. Any input is awesome though :hellyeah:

MJBEAN: Tonight (tues night) I removed my BOV, a little rtv on the inner seal, and rtv on the BOV gasket itself, also removed j-pipe and copper-sprayed the gasket, I will RTV and re-install tomorrow, I'm hoping this solves my prob, then BLT..

Mine was whistling very loud when I blew the manilfold to turbine housing gasket. Check for exhaust leaks.

Dont tighten the flanges down all the way then u put the RTV in there. You dont want to smoosh it all out. I just snugged it and let it dry for like 30 minutes and then sinched it down. Sealed now.

Which nipple are you refering to on the type S there are 2 on the type s , one should have the vaccum source , the other should be open

im having same problem. i have a 1g and just finished a turbo swap. when i try and make a pull i get a redickulous sounding whistle when i hit boost.(like a kazoo). and when i try staying on it hits fuel cut off. i havent found the leak yet, but going by what yall have bin saying it mite be the TB Gasket. because all of my hard piping for my SMIC are tight as crap too.

Mine is doing the EXACT same thing, I did the BLT and the only leaks im getting is from the manual boost controller and that little opening on the side of my Greddy RS BOV. I do have a nice hole in my flex pipe, sounds like crap. I'm not sure if thats it, I can't boost over 11psi.

Sorry to bring this back but I just installed my ngr as my greddy leaked from the diaphram, and I get that after whistle amd I dont know why, I did the single spring mod and I have no leaks as I did tests not long ago and have used rtv on the gasket of the bov aswell, it goes away when I tighten it all the way but then I loose that bov sound, so should I put that small spring back in and see if that fixes it? Or should I loosen it abit?
