I drive a 2g talon (hard pipes, hks ssqv recirc., injen intake, stock t25) and a few weeks back the car would sputter and the boost gauge would flutter as the turbo spooled. I assumed it was a boost leak I was feeling and found bad throttle body shaft seals so I changed them. I drove the car and the sputtering seemed worse and when I did another test the HKS was leaking. Changed the bov back to my 1g and now the car pulls fine except at high rpm it still seems to sputter occasionally.

I ran about 16-17 psi with the HKS on and now my gauge will only hit 12 psi with the 1g bov. Anyone else have this problem with a leaky HKS or know why I experience a drop in pressure after the switch? I have a new 1g bov on the car right now and thought they were good for 16 psi so I'm not sure why the car seems to sputter at high RPMs if I'm making a steady 12 psi now.

Well why your not hitting that amount of boost anymore could possibly be your wastegate actuator going bad. I have/had the same problem with mine as the wastegates are basically a POS. Check to see if there is any play on the wastegate actuator rod. Also i'm assuming that your checking for boosts by feeling around/listening for leaks? If so a better way to check is by making yourself an actual Boost leak tester and fixing ALL your leaks. Good luck bro!

Tested for leaks with a boost leak tester at 10 psi...I also checked the wastegate rod and there is no play and also tapped into the wastegate vacuum lines and pumped it with pressure and the rod seems to open and close fine

Try to boost leak test the car up to the pressure you plan to run. It does not leak at 10 psi but it might at 15 psi.

We're on the same boat. I had a greddy though with similar mods. The greddy will hold 15 psi... feels like a spike though. Sputter and buckle. After I sold the greddy type s and put on a 1g bov. I ran better with no buckle around 4-5k rpm like the greddy.
Im also hitting 12 psi with the 1g bov and then falls off to 10 psi. I'm guessing a boost leak!

didnt crush the bov as i thought the 1g bov were good for 16 psi and i doubt the spring is weak, the bov is brand new

Ya bro i'm not sure why you would do a BLT at 10lbs when you are running over 15? When I do a BLT I ALWAYS do 20lbs even though i'm not running over that just so I know for a fact that nothing is leaking.....

My HKS SSQV is giving me problems. It seems like it starts fluttering open under boost >13psi. It happens about 50% of the time, which sucks, because it has run a solid 23psi before, and still does on the occasions where it doesn't start fluttering.

I've tried moving the boost/vacuum to 3 different locations (stock BOV line, FPR line, and EGR line) and they all still had this fluttering. I even took it apart and tried messing with the spring. That didn't help either. The spring is hard to deform.

This isn't the normal fluttering people get when they lift, this is hard on the gas flutter.

I'm installing a crushed 1g BOV next week. If that doesn't hold, I'll dodge mod it. I hate the sound of the SSQV anyways.

LOL i agree the hks sounds terrible especially recirculated...
so I have been driving the car around for few days and it is still acting wacky. When I take off and get on it the car pulls fine and smooth from first to fifth. But if I am in say 5th gear on the highway and give it gas, the turbo spools and the spuddering happens..i did a BLT again with the 1g bov at 15 psi and the bov holds but a faint hissing is coming out near an injector and some oil drips from the drain plug but I assume this normal as the pressure must go out somewhere.
