So I take the Galant out on her maiden voyage after sitting for like 4 months and I'm babying it. I'm shifting at like 2500, just driving around the block in case I have any major problems. I am keeping it entirely out of boost. I start getting a little more comfortable with it and decide to take it up to like 3500, but remain boostless.
So I get up to like 3100 in 1st and I start hearing this terrible grinding noise. It goes away when I put the clutch in. I tested it in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and got the same results: always comes on at like 3000-3100rpm. It sounds almost like hard vibrations around the dash board center console area. I pull over and have my brother listen with the hood up. He can't hear anything out there, but I still hear it in the cabin. Same with him listening under the car. I can hear it inside, but he hears nothing under.
It makes the sound driving in the gears stated. It also makes it while parked in neutral. What do you think the problem is?
PS: sorry for the novel
