Ok i have noticed this since i got the car back in june but recently it started getting worse. When i'm in reverse and ONLY when i have the wheel turned sharp, as i back up there is this loud repeatedly clanking/thuding noise coming from the back of the car. It's really scary quite frankly. Someone told me possibly strut? How could that be the case? I'm just hoping that it's nothing with the rear. Also when i'm in gear going forward and i cut the wheel all the way going slow i hear like a grinding/rubbing sound. Hard to explain the noise. I did research till like 2 in the morning last night/morning and really could not find anything and dsmtuners was not packed like it usually is so i waited to post till this morning. Any ideas guys? Like i said it only does it in those certain circumstances. Thanks folks

Well when i got the car i notice it obviously was sitting from corrosion in gas compartment, hatch stuck shut. Ti rods squeaking stuff like that. I'm 100% sure its coming from the back. And like i said its only when i have the wheel turned all the way. I had the car in the air like couple weeks ago when i did my brake job and i checked everything bushings, control arms, axles. And its not a clicking sound like a normal axle would make its more like a THTHTHTHUD THUD kinda noise. I dunno it's hard to explain. When i did research people were talking about the reverse gear messing up. But like i said once again it only does it when the wheel is cut to any direction and im going backwards. I'm not too worried about the sound it makes when im moving forward because i do know its a 10 year old car. But the reverse scares me.

Run the car ( Carefully ) on jack stands to try to better pinpoint the location?

If its not in wheels or drive shaft rotating without the load of the car on it, I would assume it has to be suspension oriented.

just because it only does it when you have the wheel cranked, it could possibly be something with the differential in the rear. check to make sure that has fluid, and probably change it anyway if you havent. it could be something in the diff clicking because when your turning like that the one back wheel is turning a lot slower than the other.

if you're serious about doing this yourself, you should get two people to stand on both sides of the car near the rear. that way you could determine if it's one of your axles. Does it matter which direction you're turning in reverse??? otherwise it could be the rear diff./gears? the diff could be worn out, you should replace it with lsd or rebuilt

does it sound like a welded diff?
or a different clicking?

Yes i am very serious. And i havent really paid attention if its just one way im turning it or another. But also i was messing around with the reverse in my driveway and it did it slightly after i straightened the wheel. But i had the wheel cut right before i straightened it out so it being cut could have still initiated the sound? God man i cant afford to mess with the rear could be fairly expensive right?

Just to let you guys know i found out what the problem was.. all the worrying for nothing. As i went into reverse to the one side my exhaust would move over just a tad and one of the flanges would get hit by the spinning driveshaft.

Well the crazy thing is, i put new rims on the back that were different size than the front and went to drive the car to tire place to get tires put on the other 2 and then put them on the front. Well i guess from that little different it shifted the body enough to make the exhaust hit it every little bump or slight right turn. Really scared me then, until i had a friend go behind the car and as i moved the exhaust moved to the noise it was making. Then i was like AH HA!!! gotcha =] And yes when money is tight i start getting nervous and assume the worst.

this is exactly what i was thinking
