Weird overdrive issue......no slipping, but engagement PLEASE READ!

98 Spyder. Bought it for $500 because the owner thought tranny was done since it free rev'd in over drive.

Replaced the end clutches, shifts thru the gears fine, still no over drive with shifter in the D position......BUT......If i put the shifter to the 2 position, it shifts thru all gears, and overdrive engages as well.

I have triple checked the cable adjustment, and it is right since park, nuetral, and reverse are all where they should be.

Not quite sure i understand how this could be since the tcu gets the info from the trans range switch.
 
What was the solution to the free rev in OD problem? My 97 GST just started doing this yesterday.
 
Did you line up the holes on the shift selector with the trans in neutral ?
