Weird metal shavings in oil pan. *Pictures

this oil pump is in perfect shape.. nothing is wrong with it. The places where you think it has been damaged is looking like this cause its the machining that have been made by the factory. This is where the oil goes trough the pump and achieve the pressure. the oil won't pass between the two gears like most people are thinking but it pass between the gears and the walls of the housing. this what creating pressure, so the reason of the machining walls. space between gears and walls need to be really thin to create good pressure.

seems to be the end of the balance shaft or something like that. possibly the shaft that have seized up and the break.

thats almost impossible but also seems the be the bottom of an hydraulic lifter.
 
I'm talking about what is taken off of the side of the inside of the pump. Not the bottom.
 
I'll tell you it looks OK to me as well. I mean I wish I had a picture for you but I don't. And if the oil pump gears are OK then what else would have hit in there? Something could have gotten IN there but then the gears should have problems themselves. Did anything feel loose in there at all when you turned it when it was all together?

Did you take off the valve cover yet?
 
No it didn't feel too loose. I jsut don't know where those shavings could have came from... I pulled the valve cover and can't find anything wrong... I pulled all the lifters to change them because that's what I thought the noise was, and nothing seemed weird there.... I'm at a loss. I figured since the BS belt was broke that the oil pump was thrown off balance and doing something there...
 
Hey guys. I'm still lost if I should just replace the rod and possibly main bearings, install new oil pump and see what happens, as I can't find out where those shavings and pieces came from... What do you think?
 
Here's what confuses me, your bearings look pretty good from the pictures, and you think the oil pump is damaged, but yet the shavings and pieces ended up in your pan. Those pieces are certainly big enough to have been trapped by the oil filter if they came out of the pump. Am I missing something here?

I still think they are being shaved from the rotating assembly somewhere, and the large chunks are parts of the piece doing the shaving.
 
That's why I don't understand what they're from... That oil pump is the only thing that looked like shavings might have been taken out of it. I visually see anything that those pieces could be from. I thought that the reason the BS belt broke is probably something to do with the shavings.. but it had the lower RPM tap that still occured with the BS belt unhooked. Would the rear Shaft cause this from being out of balance?
 
Yes. the engine is in the car.. I'll try to get those pictures for you tomorrow... There is nothing out of the ordinary from the best of my knowledge.. I've only ever rebuilt one engine and it was a 7 bolt, so something could be there that I'm missing.. So I'll get those pics up for you guys to look at.. Thanks so much for your willingness to help so far.
