Ok. I had a tapping noise below 3,500 rpm. I took off the oil pan to find the metal shavings pictured. I'm suprised at the fact that there aren't any of those real tiny shaving like a rod or main... But I'm stumped where these came from. The Inside B.Shaft bearing looks worn. However, the BS belt was broke when I took it apart and it still made the noise... So it's something else. Any help what to look for or what these pieces could be from is appreciated. Thanks.

WTF That roundish piece kind of looks like a part of one of the oil squirters. Pic #2/3.

Time to start tearing stuff apart and finding the cause/location. Good Luck.

im also willing to be the blanace shafts are on their way so sizing up as well

Yeah... The rod bearings seem good (by trying to move them and seeing if there is play)... I have a new oil pump so I'm gonna put it in with bs shaft delete. Is it ok to take the main caps and rod caps to check if they're good and retorque. Someone told me that you should replace bearings if you do this. I'm thinking I may just replace the bearings while I'm in there...

Also, what do u guys think of the black pieces in the last pic... They seem like they're plastic or something.

Rods seem fine. It had good compression. I haven't removed the balance shaft yet to examine it. I checked out the shaft on the oil pump and it desn't look hurt. I don't know what would have made the loud noise because the balance shaft belt was broke and it still did it.

I replaced the lifters and only drove it around the block once, so I don't think it would be part of a rocker arm. Which image do you think is part of a rocker arm?

I'm sure they think this is...

I'll have to look into that... but i dont think it is part of a rocker arm.

Some might call me overly cautious, but I feel that anytime you end up with loose metal in your pan you should at least inspect the crank and the main bearings.

Make sure you mark all the caps so they go back on the same as they came off and if you decide to replace bearings, follow the FSM for sizing them with proper clearance.

If the bearings are fine then you can just bolt the caps back down to spec. There won't be a problem.

with some metal shaving like that, i will take a look at all the engine bearings ( main and rod) and also at the oil pump gears just to be sure. But you absolutely can reinstall the used bearing in their proper location without any problems. They are not moving at all when the engine is in movement so loosing the bolts and retorque them will not affect their efficiency.

Ok... Checked out most of the bearings while I had time tonight. they seemed ok. I'll post a pic of what they looked like. mostly a little browning in spots and on to a few scratches. Nothing too bad I don't think.

Now, I can't find anything that might have caused the metal shavings, except the oil pump (see pics) In between the gears the wall of the pump looks like it was scraped away. The shavings are laying on top.

I have no clue what caused this as there was nothing inside the pump and I strained the oil and couldn't find any more shavings.

I still have no clue where that half of a round thing came from and can't find anything that resembles it.

I have two oil pumps I can put in, but I am wondering if I should maybe take the valve cover off and dump kerosene or something down the oil passages to try to clean anything out that may have gotten in.

Lend me your expertise as I am totally lost. Thanks in advance.

I didn't get to all the mains yet. and yes I checked the BS bearings... they don't appear to have slivers taken out of themm

Just remember, remove the balance shafts while you're there!

I did. But you're missing what I'm asking. I'm trying to diagnose where those metal shavings and chunks of metal came from and if it's possible for it to be from the oil pump where it looks warn, and how that could happen.

This is what i need help with at the moment.

It's a 6 bolt. No, no pic of the gears. they don't appear to be hurt from what I can see.
