Okay, so i recently picked up my 96 NA talon.
It didnt idle at all when i got it, it was idleing MUCH better yesterday tho. Power washed engine bay. Dryed out the spark plug bungs so thats not a issue. my problom is when i start it, and push in cluch inbetween 1-n-r it drops to 200-300 rpm. then when i get it to sit after bringing them up it will hold at 900-1100 rpm. its almost like a phantom idel. Although i know my pully tentioner is kinda off cause it is not true to bracket so i get this real bad squeal from the bearing in it when i rise the rpms 2/3 of the time. anyways, I do not have a pipe off throttle body, but to my understanding this shouldent effect my idel alot. the coils seem to be fine, trying to figure out whats going on here.. any help would be awsome.

Check plugs and gaps as well as wires and coils, then check the throttle body the iacv and the tps, and check your throttle cable and fix the tension issue. After you do all this then check your timing, all the other stuff is easy and less complicated than checking timing on a 420a.

mechanicly speaking im not a NEWB. but persay DSM i am. iv always worked doing RnR, and fixing GM cars and trucks. but iv never run accros a simalar problom. Im thinking its to do with ignition, because it is currently damp where i am and the severity fluxuates, i am going to check more into my ignition. basicly the car doesnt want to idle with cluch in, or in nuetral, although neutral i hear something in my tranny scraping slightly. im thinking it could be a TOB, or the oil circulator/ thrower. i dont think it is timing, mainly because yesterday the car idled great when i had to move it. but today it wants to die. Im going to put some fresh gas in it since it is low and has been since i have gotten the car. Just want to sort out mechanical issues before i get to my body work.

fyi. does anyone put spring spacers in their rear? it had them when i got the car and the wheel gap difference was god dam ugly. they just had to go. much more even now.

wow i feel like an idiot. I found a hairline crack in the vaccum line off the TB right where the 90 degree bend is, ever so slightly but wouldent hold vaccum... idle problom is fixed..
fire away LOL!
