You just may be on to something there Matt. According to figure 12 of StrokeOrNot (http://www.kidzuku.com/StrokeOrNot.pdf ) at 8000 RPM the two pistons at each end of the crankshaft are pulling up 5500 pounds each at TDC while the two pistons in the center of the crank are pushing down 3000 pounds each for a stock 2.0L 4G63. Without counter weights that is a total of 17000 pounds of force being applied to the center of the crankshaft 133 times per second. And that's just the inertial loading.

With a stroker built with heavy duty (read heavy) rods and pistons that number would be a lot higher.

No wonder the crankshafts are so beefy.

Beer, beer? Hey I'll have you know that my own work goes down pretty well with wine too.

And furthermore I've bragged for years about my intellectual arrogance. But until this thread I've never quite understood way those big heavy weights were ever added to an otherwise perfectly balanced crankshaft.

For the tooners record, this is a post dinner post and I reserve the right to amend and edit my words tomorrow after the effects of California's best wears off.
