I did search, but most of the stuff I found was dated with links leading to broken or dated websites. I was reading over the how to do the timing belt how to. From my understanding I will need a special tool MD-998738 to take tension off the tensioner in order to lock the tension in the off position. I also guess I will need a crankshaft puller. Is there any recommendations to look to get these tools Any place sell them as a package deal. Also wondering if there is any place that sells a timing belt kit that comes with everything I need? My car is high mileage so I want to replace the tensioner, tensioner pulley, water pump ect like the how to recommends. Thanks

oh thats good, I wasn't sure if the crankshaft pulley was pressed on or just bolted on. Thats good to hear.

I have Gates pulleys but I haven't tried the belts or water pump. Jay Racing makes a timing tool kit that you can probably find on Extreme PSI or on JNZ Tuning which is where I got mine. The cam gear holding tool made getting the timing right a lot less stressful for me.

+1 on above tools, helped a lot!
Get OEM for timing belt tensioner pullies etc.
The crankshaft pulley comes off with four bolts, the harmonic balancer is held on with a large nut that is said to often need a impact wrench to remove. Don't forget to order a new balance shaft belt or eliminator kit.

Here are some tool kits that will work:
Take your pick, they will all work. There are other kits available aside from the quick links provided. On the tensioner rod, lube the threaded portion liberally with anti-sieze.

I would not do a balance shaft delete just to do a timing belt job. It is much more involved than people lead on. Just replace the balance shaft belt. I would only do a delete during a rebuild. Like the timing belt, it needs changed. Many people fail to do this because you have to remove a couple more parts.

More advice:
  • Read the tutorials. Check out the videos:

  • Gates parts have worked well for me with the exception of the tensioner pulley. They never seem to fit right, so I use OEM for the tensioner pulley and hydraulic tensioner.
  • Check for any leaking seals while you are removing parts. Cam seals, oil pump sprocket, and crank seal are not uncommon.
  • I would also consider getting replacement dust seals for the timing cover from Rockauto.
  • Proper torque of timing components is also critical.

I bought the all oem kit with the gates racing timing belt and balancer belt from extreme psi. They forgot to put the tensioner in the box and did not have the greatest customer service. I spent $440 with them and they refused to overnight the missing part to me.
