I was just doing the pump with my timing belt as regular maintenance and thought I'd show what the underside of the pump can look like

Pump showed no signs of failure and was still functioning. Think about metal shrapnel going through your cooling system

In the picture you can see the fins or blades eating through the housing. This is likely the factory pump at 120k miles. The blades are suppose to be flat on the bottom.

Yeah its really not major, but it does show why you should always replace the water pump as regular maintenance. Imagine if I let it go another 60k miles with new belts

Doing searches there really aren't many pictures of failed water pumps on this site or any other dsm boards so decided to add some content for reference
