I recently purchased a water injection kit and would like to start installing it.But first just a few ?'s.
Two quick things.
1. Where is the best place to run the wiring and tube through the firewall.
2. I looked all over the place and I cannot find a tap to match the threads on the water nozzle. Its 1/8 npt. I looked at home depot, auto zone , and advanced auto. The entire kit cannot be installed until I get this hole drilled and tapped.
Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

many people recomend putting it on the longest ic pipe furthest away from the TB so it will mix with air in a vapor state. so on your 2g it will be right after the bend from BOV.

now on your ic piping if you are still using factory IC piping you will need to put it on a surface that is hard like ABS plastic or aluminum. choices are the out of your intercooler (which then you will need a tap and die set) or your BOV pipe (tap and die can also be used but not nessacary). on the BOV pipe it is plastic so it is very plyable, drill a hole smaller than the thread being used and then forcing the nossle into the the hole in a screw type manner this will make the nossle thread it self. make sure and not to over thread as this needs to be free from air leaks. go out and buy some black glue sticks and glue gun and seal around nossle for a good seal from air leaks (silicon can also be used).

now if all your IC piping has been upgraded go to your best hardware store that sells nuts and bolts, take the nossle with you, and match the thread on the nossle with some nut that can be found there. now this nut needs to match the material that your IC piping is made of for welding purposes. after purchase take nut purchased, nossle, and upper IC piping to a local welding shop (can also be local muffler shop) and have them drill hole for nossle and then weld nut on. don't forget to test fit area that surgery is going to be performed for ideal location for easy access and best fit. after it is ready to be reinstalled besure and wrap thread with plumbers tape for a ideal seal. happy tuning. and have fun.

you can get a tap at SEARS, LOWES, HOME DEPOT, ect. they are very common.

I placed the nozzle on the trottle body elbow and used 2 rubber coated washers that i got from Home Depot to seal it. You did'nt say what kit you had so I don't know what setup is best for you. Some people run one nozzle pre-IC and the next at the TB.

I ran the wires and tubing from the trunk under the carpet up along/under the the passenger side moldings and then drilled a hole in the firewall that came out underneath the battery.

ohh ya i forgot to tell you there is a gromett underneath your battery it is located underdash on passengers side. first remove battery locate grommet and wires ran through it from inside the car fold down the carpet on passengers side you will see a large gommet w/ a bundle of wires going through it up underneath dash were carpet ends. around the grommet there is a saftey ring holding it in place. with a flat head screw driver you can release this ring. once it pops through to the engine compartment take that same flathead and make your hole for wires and tubing through grommet material. put everything back and your done.

Thanks guys for all of your help. I found a tap at work that will fit the thread. The IC piping is too thin to just drill and then screw in. I wouldn't feel safe with that. I do like the sound of welding a bung onto the pipe though. I am a welder so i could do it myself. I might try that instead. Thanks again for the help. I didn't want to just go drilling into the firewall, I knew someone would be able to tell me where there is already a hole.

Any hardware store should care an indivdual tap of that size - it's quite popular. I just bought a Metric Tap Set at Sears and it included that tap as it's so commonly used.

I recommend placing placing the nozzel right after the BOV as well; I had mine in the TB but since it was soft aluminum it eventually worked it's way loose until I had to replace the TB as it was leaking around the oval shaped hole that the nozzle had widened. I got a new TB and moved the nozzle right after the BOV and now the "seat of the pants" feel and datalogger (lack of knock at high boost) shows that it is working much better that it did when it was in the TB.

alex027 try this on for size: have the water injection kit turn on when your egt starts to lean, this will give you more room for HP. also while you are out buy a whole bunch of rubbing alcohol. i mean alot. now run your car for awhile just with water and see how it feels. maybe week to two weeks. now after time period is reached you are going to do a mixture of rubbing alcohol and distilted water. 60%/40% split alcohol/water. you will notice a tremendous power gain with the alcohol. do 50%/50% on days that are extremelly hot(100+temp outside)60%/40% for 90's on down. on dyno days or track i've seen guys run 70%/30% or even 80%/20% but becareful not to run out because without the liquid mixture you will lean out to quick and detonation will set in. i always keep an eye out on the level.

I had already installed the nozzle into the tb elbo before reading that it wasn't a good place. I did notice how soft the material was when i went to tap it. I'll just keep it there until it gets loose and then move it. Thanks for the tuning tips i'll have to give it a shot. I mounted the pump in the trunk and have it pulling liquid from the winshield washer res. When it gets low there is a light on my dash that goes on so I will know to fill it. Thanks for all of the help, and anything else that might help feel free to let me know.

anyone have a write up on this water injection stuff? I'm just curious as to how it knows when to spray and when not to? Can you set it so only at WOT it sprays ir is there a button you have to hold down to get it to spray?

pretty much you want it start to spray when your car starts lean out to give you more room for HP. it also depends on the kit you buy. some kits are setup with a button to spray and others are controlled by RPM, boost levels, injector speed, or even progressive controllers to lightly spray at certain rpms or heavy on others. Jackson Racing Supercharge company has had there system out for years .at times people only used them when an intercooler was not present. basiclly it was another form of cooling for the air entering the engine. the injection system is actually as old as WWII when airplanes need to stay cool. then as time went on cars started to use this invention to cool down there engines. for example Buick Grand Nationals are infamous for using water injection. but to give it a kick they added rubbing alcohol to mix. see when you add water injection it cools the ambient temp. in the motor, keep your car further away from knock and further away from detonation. but it also increases lag. here is a link to some GN guys talking about water/ alcohol injection YOU MUST READ THE HOLE THING TO UNDERSTAND.

and here is a link to an engineer that has made, from my point of view, the best water/alcohol injection system out.

sure its cheaper but thats like telling everyone don't buy an Apexi catback exhaust system buy a Flow Master muffler and have a muffler shop puts some press bends into some piping because its the same thing anyways. but then again Apexi wouldn't be a multi-million dollar company aswell as HKS, Blitz, Greddy ect...... its not that i am a sponser its just that everyone likes things to be alittle easier. everyone can make things or go to school for it but not everybody does. check this site how many boost controllers do people have that are manual? how many forums have u been to that have the recipe to make them? alot from what i've seen. sure you can make your own water injection kits but wouldn't you rather have bought one from a company that has went through the hassle of customer relations about "this and that went wrong and this would be better." i personally am for sales, retail and wholesale distributing and marketing. sure its cheaper doing it yourself but its less time consuming, and easier having someone do it for you. just my 2 cents and no its not arguing it just the way i feel.

i was planning on putting water in my windshield washer container and running a line from there to my ic piping and just blocking off my nozzles that spray to the windshield.....if i did that would this work assumeing if i used the lever to activate it from the interior????

The real water sprayer kits spray a very fine mist .. if you can find a nozzle that won't spray too much water then it should work.

yeah that is a very good point. you can flood your engine with wrong spray pattern. it is detrimental that a fine spray pattern is used. the kits that are currently made have a spray pattern finer than NOS nozzles. and if you do make your own kit please buy a check valve from Mitsubishi or Subaru from there intercooler sprayers if not your water injection kit will become water flooding kits. and your rear windshield washer pump is not stong enough from the rear so an upgraded pump is needed or relocated to the front of the vehicle.

I bought my kit from a guy off of ebay for $210. He sells through ebay or an online store at aquastealth.com. It is a great kit, and seems to be cheaper than other systems around. His feedback on ebay is exceptional. Hundreds have said it was a great kit. Maybe check that out before you go and make a home made kit. Its not that much more expensive than it would be to put a kit together yourself.

Here are some good links to DIY Water Injection pages.
If you are like me and like to do your own thing I strongly recommend that you check these out; especially the first link.

Notice that almost all kits including aquastealth.com's kit include the same pump (typically just re-badged) and that is usually the most expensive piece of the kit so you can potentially save a lot of money by making a kit yourself.

There is also a lot of good info in forum form at http://www.h20injection.com/ and if you still don't know why people want to spray water in their engine, read this. In that discussion they are mostly talking about Grand National's but there is a lot of good info there.

its funny how people reply in these threads without reading the whole thing. if you notice a few quotes up. i mention the exact same link to the one you have just pasted. :thumb:
