ok so the gasket on my old oil cap was pretty bad..i used to have a good puddle in the spark plug well after about 2-3 days..anyways i got a new one and put it on today, but i noticed that there was water in the oil (white coloring) and i was wondering if condensation could have gotten under there and caused it or if i have other problems (head gasket). Its been pretty cold here lately and i was thinking maybe the heat from the motor condensed and water got up under there..any help is appreciated..thanks

If there is noticeable amounts of water in the oil, it is most likely the head gasket. If it were only through the cap, then it would have evaporated off again when the engine warmed up and expelled through the pcv - assuming it was working correctly.

If there are extremely cold conditions and the engine was driven without warming it enough, it may have warped the head. Likewise extreme temperatures can make previous problems more apparent.

If the water were able to get under the cap, it would have to evaporate into the little recess of the cap, then condense and drop down inside.

With the lip on the top of the valve cover, there really is no other point of entry unless it is dripping all the way through the spark plug well past eh plug, into the combustion chamber and eventually into the oil reservoir past the pistons. 2-3 days with only a small amount of water from condensation just isn't enough water, nor time, to penetrate.

well my car sometimes isnt driven for 2 or 3 days..so could it have leaked into there then?
Nope. Contrary to popular belief, water does not climb into a closed engine bay, lift up the oil cap, and climb in. J/J

If there's enough water in the oil to make it noticeable, then you probably have a failing head gasket or a cracked block. It's there's "some fluid" in the oil, and you are assuming it's water, it could also be fuel.

Like architechnik said, most fluids like water and fuel will evaporate with heat, and evacuate the crankcase through the valve cover.

The two most important questions: Are you sure it's water? How much?

good point..it definitely could be fuel..i have been running like completely rich for a couple weeks now (boost leak, dont ask haha) but could that be causing the same effects as water?

where are you finding what? oil change and water in the oil?

If you're finding water in the oil, it will be white and creamy looking. But are you just looking in the oil cap hole? Time for a compression test and atleast an oil change...

I would say it sounds like a head gasket, bu then again just do the simple things first before assuming the worst( even if it is human nature, LOL well at least if you own a dsm ROFL) Do the compression test then let us know. Oh and fix the boost leak :thumb:
